remember to bring:

northern nature connect - session 6: grow through what you go through

welcome to week 6 and the final session of the summer nnc program.  i welcome you to join me back where it all began on the meandering trail through our campus boreal forest.  let’s gather together once more to delight our senses in nature.  you will be gifted a white spruce seedling to plant on campus. as nature is constantly changing, so are we, and your seedling can symbolize new beginnings and teach us how we can grow through what we go through.

northern nature connect - session 5: creekside creations

week 5 of nnc will have us gathering in the woods along the lazy portion of the mcintyre river.  this week we will explore our creative side and see how we can make beautiful creations with the gifts that mother nature provides us with daily.  we will be crafting a unique suncatcher wind chime that you can take home and remember your connection to the earth.  all supplies are provided.

northern nature connect - session 4: a bird’s eye view

welcome to week 4 of the nnc.  it’s time to venture off campus to our local mckeller island bird observatory.  the staff from “a project to save our songbirds” will be showing us how they catch, band, and track the songbirds that live or migrate through our area.  we will enjoy a beautiful morning on the mission marsh and you will even get to hold and release a bird!

northern nature connect - session 2: treats with trees

welcome to week 2 of northern nature connect as we gather beside the mcintyre river and join tram-anh bui for a nature based mindfulness session followed by a lunch with the trees.  you will learn about natural journaling and be able to create your very own journal for your future outdoor adventures.

northern nature connect - session 1: a prescription for nature

have you heard of the japanese term shinrin-yoku?  translated to english it means “forest bathing”. simply put, it’s taking in the forest atmosphere.  while there are many definitions, forest therapy is a type of ecotherapy that focuses on the therapeutic and holistic benefits of being among the trees.

join your certified guide, sara melvin, in a guided forest therapy walk through our beautiful campus trails.  you will partake in a slow-paced, mindful walk experience that opens the senses through a series of nature-connected invitations.
