阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 ’s faculty of law signs aboriginal protocol agreement

阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 officials have signed a protocol agreement with nishnawbe aski nation, the union of ontario indians, grand council treaty #3, and métis nation of ontario to establish a strong, meaningful and respectful working relationship regarding the faculty of law.
the agreement brings together these aboriginal leaders who will meet on a semi-annual basis to discuss issues relating to aboriginal perspectives of the law.
“i look forward to working with first nation and the métis nation organizations in furthering the faculty of law’s mandate of focusing on aboriginal law and understanding of aboriginal issues, the needs of small practitioners, and natural resources law,” said faculty of law founding dean lee stuesser.
“this protocol agreement establishes a much-needed process for ongoing engagement with the aboriginal community so priorities from our perspective are identified and understood,” said nishnawbe aski nation deputy grand chief goyce kakegamic.
“it is essential that the faculty of law remain engaged with first nation and métis political organizations to ensure that our perspectives on historical and emerging issues are reflected through the curriculum,” deputy grand chief kakegamic added.
“阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 , with the new law school and agreements with first nations, has taken a positive step in creating a strong environment for our young men and women to be positive role models in the world of education,” said union of ontario indians regional grand chief peter collins.
“treaty #3 is known for the treaty promise of a shared learning through an education system that provides opportunities for all anishinaabe to reach their goals,” said grand chief warren white of grand council treaty #3.
“the commitment to an ongoing relationship and a forum where anishinaabe input into the study of law through this protocol agreement is of great value and will benefit those educated in the program and the communities and individuals they will one day work for,” grand chief white said.
“as an aboriginal government in ontario, the métis nation of ontario (mno) is excited to partner with 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 and other aboriginal governments through this protocol agreement,” said mno president gary lipinski.
“métis participation in the faculty of law at lakehead will help address obstacles aboriginal people face when pursuing postsecondary education, permit a focus on métis law, attract more métis to the legal profession and train lawyers who understand the needs of aboriginal people and communities,” president lipinski added.
lakehead president and vice-chancellor dr. brian stevenson said this agreement is important because the faculty of law owes its existence to the commitment of communities in northwestern ontario.
“nishnawbe aski nation was one of the groups that approached 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 to create the faculty of law,” dr. stevenson said. “we value our partnerships and look forward to working with all of these groups to make the faculty of law the best it can be for this community and the region.”

lakehead opens doors to ontario’s first new faculty of law in 44 years

ontario’s first faculty of law in 44 years officially opened its doors, today, with a large ribbon cutting ceremony at lakehead’s port arthur collegiate institute (paci), home to the university’s newest faculty. attendees of this historic event included the school’s first cohort of 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 and faculty, as well as dignitaries and ontario premier kathleen wynne.
the inaugural class will teach 60 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 everything they need to know to be lawyers and more, by focusing on aboriginal law and understanding aboriginal issues, the needs of small practitioners and natural resources law.
professor lee stuesser, founding dean of the faculty of law, was excited that the grand opening had finally arrived.
“this is a great day for 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 , for thunder bay, and indeed for northern ontario. a new law school is opening that is different and that is intended to serve the communities in northern ontario and in smaller centres throughout canada,” dean stuesser said. “a new law school is born. it is small; it is personal; and it is tailored to prepare 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 for professional practice.
“the faculty of law at 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 is a creation of the community. many said it would never happen – they were wrong. the communities in northwestern ontario fought for this school and together they succeeded. we are very proud of this new school and thunder bay should be proud,” stuesser said.
lakehead’s new faculty of law will educate lawyers who will play a vital role in northwestern ontario for first nation, métis and inuit communities. the faculty will provide its 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 with a fundamental legal education, while focussing on aboriginal law, natural resources law, and single or sole practitioner law.
“this faculty of law is in the north for the people of the north,” said lakehead president and vice-chancellor, dr. brian stevenson. “our focus is on preparing 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 who wish to practice law in rural and smaller centres, where there is a need to enhance and increase access to justice.”
“on behalf of 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 , i welcome our new law 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 , staff and faculty, and hope they decide to stay in northern ontario to help fill the demand in this region,” dr. stevenson added. “we are also extremely grateful to the provincial government, first nation and métis communities, our local mpp’s, bill mauro and michael gravelle, the county and district law presidents’ association, municipal organizations across northwestern ontario, and the thunder bay law association for their support in establishing this new and special faculty of law.”
in july 2011, ontario’s ministry of training, colleges and universities (mtcu) committed to support 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 ’s faculty of law. the mtcu fully funded the faculty of law with a $1.5 million investment for capital improvements made to the historic paci building in thunder bay where the faculty of law is housed.

faculty of law completes its inaugural year's faculty

阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 ’s faculty of law is pleased to welcome dr. frances chapman and mr. jason maclean to its founding faculty. these appointments officially complete the faculty’s first year hires.
“both of our new faculty bring with them solid legal practice credentials and strong scholarship — exactly what we need," said the faculty of law’s dean, lee stuesser. "in a small school that emphasizes teaching, they will be excellent in the classroom. we’re thrilled to have them as part of our founding team."
dr. frances chapman comes to us from st. jerome’s university – university of waterloo, where she established a strong reputation for her classroom teaching as an assistant professor in the legal studies program since 2009, and a contract lecturer since 2007.
dr. chapman was admitted to the bar in 2002 after having completed her juris doctor at the university of western ontario. following a couple of years in private practice with the london firm of cohen highly llp in (2003-2005), she returned to complete her ll.m. before moving on to osgoode hall, york university, where she obtained her ph.d. in 2009. her research interests lie in the area of criminal defence.
dr. chapman has received numerous awards and scholarships, including the william z. estey fellowship in law and the uw legal studies society distinguished professor award 2012.
mr. jason maclean is presently a senior litigation associate at the national law firm osler, hoskin & harcourt llp in toronto, where he has practiced since 2008. before joining osler, mr. maclean clerked for justice marie deschamps at the supreme court of canada. prior to that he worked as an associate at the law firm of shearman & sterling llp in new york city. mr. maclean was called to the bar in both new york state and the province of ontario.
mr. maclean received an honours b.a. in anthropology from st. francis xavier university in 1994, graduating with the governor general’s medal. he went on to complete a m.a. in anthropology from the university of toronto in 1995, and completed the requirements (abd) for his ph.d. in sociology from u of t in 2000. mr. maclean graduated with a joint b.c.l. / ll.b. from the mcgill university faculty of law in 2006. his research interests include environmental and natural resources law, corporate law (particularly corporate social responsibility and anti-corruption), property law and legal education.
mr. maclean is also a former legal consultant to the expert panel on securities regulation and the canadian securities transition office (2008-2010), a contributing editor of the global competition litigation review, and the constitutional and administrative law editor of the toronto law journal. mr. maclean has received numerous awards and has authored over 20 articles.
