internship in lignin-based flocculant production - thunder bay

job description: the purpose of this internship is to train an intern to conduct research on developing a process for producing a lignin based material that can be used as a flocculant in the mining industry. the intern will study the relevant literature, conduct experiments and analyze data at the biomass utilization research laboratory (burl) of 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 in thunder bay campus. the intern will be involved in the research investigation on the modification (copolymerization) of kraft lignin to produce anionic lignin and on the evaluation of the performance of the product in various ore  samples received from a mining company. he/she will use nmr, ftir, btg, tga, chns and hplc to evaluate the properties of the copolymerized kraft lignin, and will compare the properties of commercial flocculants with his/her product using various instruments including turbidity, zeta potential and light scattering analyzers.

qualifications: the intern can be a recent graduate (with a bsc, msc degree) in chemical engineering, chemistry, biology or forestry. the best candidate for this position is a recent graduate of a chemical engineering or chemistry program. the intern should have basic knowledge of organic chemistry and computer skills and be enthusiastic about research in the forest and/or mining industry.

the intern must also not have previously participated in an internship program. internships must provide first-time employment in a related field. recent foreign graduates with canadian degrees are also welcome to apply.

阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 ’s department of psychology invites applications for one tenure-track faculty appointment at the assistant professor level to commence january 1, 2017. the department has several undergraduate programs, along with master and doctoral programs in clinical psychology and psychological science.  

the applicant would bring research, teaching, and clinical expertise to complement the research program of the canada research chair in indigenous mental health and addiction.  the crc’s current program of research and five-year research plan approaches indigenous mental health and addiction in four interconnected directions with the following goals: 

1. identify culturally and contextually appropriate targets of intervention and develop methods for measuring outcomes;
2. identify western evidence-based and traditional approaches that show promise for treating mental health and addiction issues among indigenous people;
3. develop and test intervention approaches which bring together culture- and community-based knowledge with western-scientific methods; and,
4. disseminate new knowledge broadly in indigenous communities, scientific communities, and among policy and decision-makers using accessible knowledge translation approaches.

in addition to complementing the crc’s research program, the successful applicant should be able to contribute to the overall research and training needs of the graduate programs in clinical psychology - a strong commitment to the scientist-practitioner model of training is highly desirable for the position.   

the ideal applicant will hold a phd in clinical psychology and be eligible for registration with the college of psychologists of ontario (cpo). preference is given to candidates who have graduated from a cpa-accredited program and completed a cpa-accredited internship. experience working clinically with first nations children, adolescents, and adults would be a highly valued asset.

course description for research methods ii:

course description for forest entomology: lectures and laboratories are designed to give an understanding of insect identification, population dynamics of forest insects and how insects interact with trees and forests. tools for managing insect populations are presented. an insect collection is required; a workshop on how to collect, preserve and mount insects will be given at the end of the winter semester of the second year to give 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 an opportunity to collect during the spring and summer.

this course is conducted in 2:3 format for lectures and labs.  

qualifications of applicant should include: phd in forestry, ecology, biology, or related field, understanding of canadian plants species, understanding of forest ecology, and relevant recent teaching experience in a university undergraduate setting. must be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of domestic and invasive forest insects (both defoliators and bark beetles) posing economic and ecosystem health challenges (including urban forests) in canada. experience with distance education is desirable.

course description for forest ecology & silvics: an introduction to the concepts of structure and function in a forest context. principles of 1) production ecology, 2) biogeochemical cycling in forest systems, 3) community dynamics and succession and 4) ecosystem ecology will be explored. impacts of human-induced and natural disturbance events will be discussed. the laboratory portion will emphasize the scientific approach to investigation including literature reviews, collection of data, application of statistical tests and interpretation of results.
