dr. douglas alan west is the editor of four books including from our eyes: learning from indigenous peoples (garamond) he has contributed scholarly articles, book chapters, reviews and editorials to scholarly journals and edited works in the areas of canadian political thought, indigenous political ideas, northern politics and the politics of food. from 2006-2008, he served as co-director for the food security research and service exchange network at lakehead funded by the j.w. mcconnell family foundation. he has also developed over 30 different classroom-based and on-line courses for the departments of political science and interdisciplinary studies. currently, his research interests are focused on community food sovereignty/sustainability, northern politics and food policy, migrant food worker rights and the political ideas of george grant, harold innis and w.l. morton. dr. west has a passion for community engagement and the value of the not-for-profit sector, serving in orillia, thunder bay, ottawa and victoria, bc as a board member and advisor for the past 30 years with various organizations.
