selected current research:
- "trafficking of the elderly" - project objectives: to develop a working definition of trafficking of the elderly in order to information judicial and non-judicial responses to the problem; to determine the general level of awareness and understanding of trafficking of the elderly among the key stakeholders in canada; to ascertain the primary resources available to the trafficked elderly; to lay the foundation for future studies on the subject in canada and internationally, particularly by identifying top research priorities (principal investigator) (2016 - 2019)
- “examining social enterprise as a potential model for labour market (re)integration of human trafficking survivors” - the goal of this project is to examine social enterprise (se) as a potential model for labour market (re)integration programming for survivors of human trafficking, with focus on adult female survivors of domestic sex trafficking in canada. the project components include a systematic review of empirical literature on ses and embedded case studies of two women’s ses in toronto (principal investigator) (2015 - 2018)
- “contextualizing sex trafficking of aboriginal women and girls” - project objectives: to disseminate the latest research on sex trafficking of aboriginal women and girls in canada; to provide the physical and intellectual space for critical analysis and contextualization of the problem; to facilitate face-to-face networking and interdisciplinary, multi-sectoral knowledge exchange among the delegates, particularly 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 , faculty, and social service providers; to facilitate collaboration between academics and practitioners for the purposes of continual strengthening of the knowledge base and evidence-based practice with trafficked persons; to provide unique educational and training opportunities for 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 and other participants (principal investigator) (2016 - 2018)
- “strengthening community human rights responses through inter-disciplinary collaborative research” - project objectives: to establish an interdisciplinary group of researchers, consisting of scholars, human rights professionals, and community organizations who will engage on salient human rights issues that affect the north western ontario region specifically and canada generally; as a pilot project for the group, to develop a white paper on the issue of trafficking of women in thunder bay complete with an analysis of the problem, the gaps in response, and recommendations towards ending this practice; to maintain and grow the interdisciplinary working group ensuring cross pollination of ideas, approaches, and findings to other communities and universities across canada, and to establish more issue-specific international partnerships and resources (co-investigator) (pi: miriam cohen; co-investigators: dr. helle moeller, dr. gerald walton, dr. rebecca schif, dr. a. lori chambers, dr. charles levkoe, and dreeni geer) (2017 - 2018)
