my primary research fields are the military and diplomatic history of modern canada, focusing particularly on mobilization strategies during the second world war and on canadian-american relations during the john diefenbaker conservative government from 1957 to 1963.  i am also an editor of the collected papers of bertrand russell, an international collaborative project based at mcmaster university compiling the writings of the nobel prize-winning british philosopher and social activist.  recent funded projects include the following:
