i teach courses mainly in medieval and renaissance/early modern literature, with a particular focus on drama, poetry, and rhetoric, but i also teach academic writing and the foundations of literary study in general. courses i teach regularly include:

seminar classes at the 4th year and graduate levels: english and scottish popular ballads, medieval scottish poetry, the plays of christopher marlowe, and medieval and tudor drama
my publications focus on early drama, older scots poetry, rhetoric, and bibliography, especially the creation of teaching editions for academic study. i am a contributing bibliographer for the new chaucer society with a decade of annual annotated bibliographies published in studies in the age of chaucer, and i am contributing editor for the broadview anthology of british literature, the broadview anthology of medieval drama, and the broadview anthology of tudor drama. in addition, i have published more than thirty reviews of scholarly books for the american library association and invited reviews in several refereed scholarly journals. my current project is a us national endowment for the humanities-funded teaching edition of richard holland's older scots poem the buke of the howlat for the middle english texts series of teams.
