reporting to the student wellness and athletics coordinator, the wellness and recreation assistant plays an important and key role in student affairs. this position is responsible for administrative coordination of campus recreation, intramural programming, and providing direct support to all competitive sports teams (varsity, extramural and club). in addition, this position will also provide direct support to 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 seeking support from our health and counselling team. the wellness and recreation assistant will work closely with the student wellness and athletics coordinator, staff, faculty, community partners, practitioners and 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 to grow and expand the current complement of wellness and athletics programs and services.
duties include:
• assist with the administration and coordination of varsity, extramural, and intramural programs ensuring administrative compliance with the ontario colleges athletic association (ocaa)
• support student health promotion initiatives including working closely with the student peer wellness education team (pwe).
• maintain a frontline to the wellness centre which includes but is not limited to receiving student concerns, booking appointments, and making referrals while ensuring professionalism and confidentiality (fippa & phippa).
• provide support with overall marketing and promotion of the athletics & wellness services and programs.
• attend evening and weekend programming both on and off campus and provide support and guidance.
• collaborate with the student affairs team to implement occasional events and programs that enhance the student experience.
qualifications:
• university degree in a related field; or equivalent post-secondary education, training, and experience;
• demonstrates knowledge of the student life cycle, student development theory, and sports and intramurals along with relevant rules, in a post-secondary setting.
• outstanding relationship building, organizational, time and project management skills;
• experience with student health promotion and/or athletics-related programming is an asset;
• excellent understanding of privacy and confidentiality in a health or related setting;
• excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal;
• demonstrated ability to exercise judgment, take initiative, and resolve problems;
• demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, and use tact and diplomacy in difficult situations;
• ability to work some evening and weekends as needed.

阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 orillia capped off a successful 2017-18 athletics season on friday, april 6 with a celebration of its student athletes during the annual athletic awards banquet at hawk ridge golf and country club.
“this is a night to highlight our thunderwolves athletes,” said elana weber, student athletics and wellness coordinator. “it’s an opportunity for all our athletes and coaches to receive well-deserved recognition surrounded by their coaches and teammates.”
to cap off the celebration, andrew dobson was named male athlete of the year, while chauntelle palmer was recognized as female athlete of the year. palmer was also recognized as most valuable player for women’s varsity indoor soccer.
other major award winners included brennan kaffer and lukas katinas who were named the ontario colleges athletic association (ocaa) all-academic award recipients. the ocaa all-academic award is presented to full-time student athletes who also meet honours academic standards at 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 .
awards were also presented to top student athletes in each of the university’s sports teams: equestrian, men’s and women’s hockey, dance, men’s and women’s soccer, and men’s basketball. most valuable player and rookie of the year were announced and presented by the team coaches, who were also recognized and thanked by the university.
“being an athlete is a lot of work on top of being a full-time student, and in some cases, juggling a part-time job,” said chris glover, director of student affairs, who addressed the student athletes at friday night’s banquet. “although today you are being recognized as athletes, together you represent so much more. you are leaders, passionate members and ambassadors of 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 , and proud thunderwolves who make this university a special place for so many.”
since lakehead orillia began offering athletic programs back in 2010, the menu of sports offered through the orillia campus has grown to a multi-level, multi-sport program with almost 100 athletes.
“if it wasn’t for the perseverance and hard work of our athletes and volunteer coaches, we simply wouldn’t have the athletic program we do here at lakehead orillia,” said glover. “we know how important it is to our 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 to be able to offer these types of programs and we’re hoping to continue to see growth and diversity in what we offer.”

a powerful symbol is now visible on the 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 orillia campus. the new tipi, raised by the university last week, serves as a sign that lakehead is committed to ensuring it is a safe gathering space for indigenous learners.
“raising a tipi on campus is a culturally significant moment for lakehead orillia,” said dr. dean jobin-bevans, principal, lakehead orillia. “it symbolizes the university’s commitment to supporting and enhancing aboriginal knowledge and culture through education, to help our 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 , faculty, staff, and community partners further understand and appreciate aboriginal perspectives and traditions.”
in conjunction with the tipi already in place on the thunder bay campus, the tipi on the orillia campus will serve as a meaningful and social space for 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 , faculty, and staff.
“not only will the tipi help promote and share indigenous culture and knowledge, it will also function as a place where other disciplines can interact with each other and bridge a sense of understanding of concepts that may be missed within certain classes,” said winston boudreau, lakehead orillia student and clan representative of the turtle island student circle. “i think it is a step forward to having a strengthened partnership with neighboring communities and promoting a sense of inclusiveness within the campus.”
“the tipi and surrounding gardens are a part of a living, growing, gathering place for learning and sharing of ideas between 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 , faculty, and staff,” said allysha wassegijig, aboriginal initiatives coordinator at lakehead orillia. “we want to make sure that 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 is a welcoming place, where indigenous peoples, history, and way of life are celebrated through education, respect, and diversity.”
traditional helper cliff sharpe began the event with a smudging ceremony, using the cleansing smoke from sacred medicines, sage and tobacco, to bless the tipi and all those who attended. following the ceremony, staff, 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 , and faculty, participated in men’s and women’s teachings with sharpe and luanna harper.
the tipi is the culmination of turtle island student circle’s goal to create a space embraced and supported by the community both inside and outside of lakehead.
the tipi will eventually be painted with traditional designs and colours, as directed by local elders.

as the summer comes to a close, 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 across ontario are getting ready to head back to school. attending post-secondary school is a big change for most young adults, as they move away from home and start a new chapter of their lives. it can be a very scary experience and one of the best ways to help calm those fears is to attend orientation. at lakehead orillia, 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 can be guaranteed a great first impression of university life, as the campus began planning their thunderwolves howl: orientation 2014 all the way back in april.
over 300 new 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 will be coming to lakehead’s orillia campus on september 5 as the orientation activities begin. current 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 were chosen in april to act as orientation leaders, and will be welcoming 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 from all over ontario and the world — some from as far as nigeria and china. the event will be taking place over the course of the weekend and will have 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 exploring both the campus and the city of orillia.
attending orientation can, at first, seem like an intimidating endeavour. i know that when i began my studies at lakehead orillia as a mature student, i was nervous to attend and even considered not going. three years later, i am now an orientation leader and excited to welcome new 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 and help them transition smoothly into university life. looking back at my experience, here are my top three reasons why i think attending orientation is an important part for any incoming lakehead 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 .
1. meeting new people.
nervous about starting your first year of university? guess what: so is everyone else! one of the most beneficial things you learn within the first five minutes of getting to orientation is that everyone is feeling the same emotions you are. finding this out can be incredibly comforting and can help allow you to open up and begin talking to other 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 . once you get talking, try to find some people who are in the same program as you, as this will establish familiar faces in your lectures and might even land you a study buddy or two.
2. finding out what lakehead has to offer.
though you most likely have done your fair share of research before getting on campus, there are many things that lakehead has to offer that you may not have realized, yet, including the student union, various clubs and organizations, on-campus jobs, and athletics. orientation provides 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 the chance to explore current interests and even create a few new ones, all while having fun!
3. getting to know orillia.
almost an entire day is dedicated to exploring the city because orillia has so many different things to offer! you will get the chance to see the sights and sounds of your new home and learn the best places for eating, shopping, exercising, and entertainment! loonie lunch is a fun orientation event in which new 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 can explore downtown and can grab lunch for only $1 at some popular restaurants including mariposa market and think-tank.
"we want to expose our first year 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 to the diverse opportunities available within the orillia community, so having groups involved in the program is ideal. through the loonie lunch, the downtown scavenger hunt, and expo, 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 will become more familiar with the city and what it can offer them,” says anna lisa martin, current student and orientation assistant.
even though orientation may seem like an intimidating experience at first, choosing to attend is beneficial for any student. the orientation leaders at lakehead orillia cannot wait to welcome all the new 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 and introduce them to our great campus and city.
