阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 launched its online 2020 report to the community “hope and resilience” website today, featuring stories and videos celebrating inspirational achievements by 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 , alumni, and researchers.

lakehead’s president & vice-chancellor, dr. moira mcpherson, said, “our 2020 report to the community is about hope and resilience, and about celebrating our 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 , faculty, staff, researchers, and alumni who contribute so much to our communities.

“we invite our 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 , alumni, and friends around the world to experience our online annual report and to join us in celebrating what we have all achieved together,” she added.

the website hopeandresilience.ca shares annual updates on information about the university, presents the university’s impacts on the regions around its orillia and thunder bay campuses, and highlights the achievements by 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 , faculty and alumni from around the world.

canada’s minister of health, the honourable patty hajdu (ba’96/hba’97 anthropology), is among the inspiring alumni featured in this year’s report to the community.

on the website, the federal member of parliament at the forefront of canada’s response to the coronavirus describes how she had to abruptly shift gears as the virus spread throughout europe and then reached canada’s shores, adding that, “it’s always been a point of pride for me that i’m a lakehead grad.”

the website also celebrates fatima ahmed, who earned her bachelor of education in the spring of 2020 and is now a master of education student.

ahmed is currently teaching elementary 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 at a school in nunavik in the far north of quebec. before she started teaching, she assisted in the fight against hiv/aids in botswana, worked with the women’s development officer in vanuatu in the south pacific ocean, and served as the executive director helping at-risk youth in inuvik, northwest territories.

“having gone to a large university and a large campus for my first undergraduate degree, i think there is something special about attending smaller universities or campuses,” ahmed said. “at smaller universities, one is less likely to get lost as a number, which was unfortunately my experience with a larger university.”

being a physician in the middle of a pandemic is not an easy situation, however lakehead alumna dr. crystal luchkiw (hbasc’09) is staying focused on what’s best for her patients.

“as a practitioner, i’m very much about human connection,” she said. “i spend a lot of time making sure that people understand their diagnosis and providing emotional and psychological support.”

since march, dr. luchkiw has been trying to counteract the fear and uncertainty that has followed in the wake of covid-19. “i encourage my elderly patients to safely see their families and to go outdoors,” she said. “many of them didn’t leave their homes for months and that’s devastating to their health.”

dr. charles levkoe, lakehead’s canada research chair in sustainable food systems, is working with the indigenous food circle, which is stepping up during the pandemic to secure money to provide nutritious food for indigenous people in the region.

in times of crisis, vulnerable people often suffer the greatest hardships. this is proving true for indigenous communities as the coronavirus continues to cause loss of life and economic upheaval.

“indigenous people in northwestern ontario have almost double the rate of food insecurity as the white settler population,” dr. levkoe said.

finding ways to create a more equitable food system drives dr. levkoe’s research, however he recognizes that real change comes from working together with communities and grassroots organizations who take the lead in creating solutions.

lakehead celebrates several milestones on the website, including being on maclean’s 2021 list of canada’s top 10 primarily undergraduate universities, and in the top half of the times higher education (the) world university rankings.

one of the world’s most respected ranking systems, the included lakehead among the top 100 universities from around the world in its 2020 impact rankings, which assess institutions against the united nations’ 17 sustainable development goals and more than 220 measurements.

阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 ’s report to the community luncheon, held on november 27 at the valhalla inn ballroom, introduced more than 300 guests to researchers and alumni who are doing exciting work that is making an impact within the university and beyond.

the first guest was alex bilyk, a phd student who helped design the drone challenge in the thunder bay episode of the amazing race canada that aired on ctv in august.

bilyk described working with the crew from the amazing race canada and the drone challenge that producers used on the thunder bay episode. he spent mother’s day weekend filming and kept it secret from his family and friends until the episode aired.

next up was dr. kathryn sinden, a lakehead assistant professor of kinesiology, firefighter regan bolduc, a lakehead honours bachelor of kinesiology graduate and co-chair of thunder bay fire rescue’s critical incident response team, and sara sayed, a lakehead master of science graduate, who discussed their research into post-traumatic stress in thunder bay firefighters.

using wearable technology, they demonstrated the insight that they can gain while firefighters do a lift using a manikin.

the final guest was peter cameron, an education alumnus who is a grade 5/6 teacher at st. elizabeth’s school in thunder bay. cameron co-founded make a difference – professional development, bringing together educators from around the world to share one idea that makes a difference in their classroom.

in 2019, he was chosen as a national geographic grosvenor teacher fellow – along with 44 other highly respected educators – in recognition of his commitment to geographic education.

when cameron graduated from lakehead’s faculty of education in 1994, he never dreamed he’d have the opportunity to travel aboard the national geographic quest ship in alaska. during his talk, he also described how technology allowed him to connect with 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 in ways he never imagined.

madison sameshima, a student in lakehead’s master of science in management program, was the master of ceremonies for the annual luncheon.

some milestones that were celebrated at the luncheon included being named ‘research university of the year’ in the undergraduate category for the fifth year in a row by research infosource and being included among canada’s top 10 primarily undergraduate universities by maclean’s 2020 university rankings.

“today was an opportunity to meet some of the people who learn, teach, and advance research, scholarly and creative work at lakehead—each empowering themselves and our learners to become the next generation of leaders,” said dr. moira mcpherson, lakehead’s president & vice-chancellor.

“this year’s annual report shows the exceptional impact our 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 , faculty, and alumni are having on the economy and society,” dr. mcpherson added.

the theme of 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 ’s 2016/2017 report to the community was partnerships and pathways.

the cbc’s lisa laco hosted the annual luncheon at the italian cultural centre on november 7, which featured interviews with some of the exceptional people who helped make the last year a special one.

guests included colette lepage, a lakehead alumna from chemical engineering who is an engineer for the national aeronautics and space administration (nasa), and lakehead english professor scott pound with student gavin shields.

for many years, lepage has been working with a multinational team of scientists and engineers on nasa’s james webb space telescope, the most powerful telescope ever built, at the goddard space flight center in maryland. “it will look back in time to capture the first light after the big bang 13.8 billion years ago,” she said.

the chemical engineering program at lakehead included a challenging curriculum with group projects, public speaking, and mentoring, lepage said.

“the very best thing about lakehead was that you weren’t a number. two professors in particular – dr. nirdosh and dr. puttagunta – had a big impact on me. they wanted to make you the best engineer possible,” she said.

dr. pound described how he and 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 in his third-year life writing class, including gavin shields, met with hospice northwest clients, volunteers, and bereaved family members, to help write their memoir.

it was a unique challenge. “there was no template for this kind of project – and we weren’t interested in bland chronological summaries,” dr. pound said. they wanted compelling narratives that revealed the humanity of each person – a legacy that could be passed on.

“we also hoped that these memoirs would help destigmatize the larger conversation about death and dying,” dr. pound said.

shields, who is an indigenous learning student at lakehead, collaborated with an elderly woman who had looked after her terminally ill husband for four years. “he had just passed away when i started interviewing her,” shields said. “she was trying to put her life back together.”

he was moved by the way the memoir changed her perspective. “at the start of the course, she was a lady who didn’t think she had done much of importance, but she came to realize she’d had a worthwhile life,” shields said.

the report to the community was a chance to celebrate the year’s other successes, including the incredible financial impact that lakehead has on the province.

lakehead alumnus matt pearson discussed the challenges and successes in being a part owner of the sleeping giant brewing company.

阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 ’s report to the community luncheon celebrated the innovative changemakers and events from the last year with a roomful of important stakeholders.

the gathering was held on wednesday, november 23 in the embassy room at the victoria inn to celebrate the 2015-16 annual report, hosted by cbc thunder bay’s lisa laco.

one of the luncheon speakers was alumnus jeff burke (hbesc’07), who launched brule creek farms with his wife andrea in 2008 after being involved in a research project with 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 ’s food security research network (fsrn). dr. mirella stroink, a member of the fsrn, described the important work that the group does to improve access to food.

one of the owners of the sleeping giant brewing company, lakehead alumnus matt pearson (bed’14), discussed the brewery’s challenges and successes.

laco also interviewed sasha bubon, a phd student studying chemistry at lakehead and a research physicist with the thunder bay regional health research institute. bubon talked about the positron emission tomography scanner he is developing to detect breast cancer.

at the luncheon, lakehead president and vice-chancellor dr. brian stevenson described the excellent work being done by the university’s researchers and alumni.

“this year’s annual report shows the exceptional impact our 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 , faculty, and alumni are having on the economy and society – and that’s why we are calling them changemakers,” dr. stevenson said.

in addition to the academic, research, and community accomplishments, lakehead’s operating expenditures had an economic impact of $319 million on the city of thunder bay in 2015-16.

other report highlights included being named canada’s #1 research university in its category by re$earch infosource and first in total research dollars in maclean’s 2015 university rankings.

in november 2015 lakehead’s faculty of business administration received accreditation from the association to advance collegiate schools of business (aacsb), which involved a rigorous five-year process.

established in 1916, aacsb accreditation is the hallmark of excellence in business education and less than five per cent of the world’s business schools have earned it.

阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 ’s report to the community luncheon recognized the influential people and events from the last year and celebrated the university’s 50^th anniversary.

people from thunder bay gathered at the valhalla inn on november 24 to celebrate the release of the university’s special commemorative 2014-15 annual report.

brian macivor was among the group of community members, 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 , faculty and staff who were interviewed by cbc thunder bay’s lisa laco in a talk-show format during the luncheon.

macivor described why he and the thunder bay legal community support the bora laskin faculty of law.

other participants included professor emeritus john whitfield, who discussed lakehead’s early years and evolution.

jocelyn bel is a master of business administration student who described her experiences as a lakehead undergraduate student and as co-director with superior science.

dr. matthew tocheri, assistant professor in anthropology, was interviewed about his experiences as a lakehead student, his work at the smithsonian, about returning to lakehead as a canada research chair, and about the homo floresienis dig that he participated in.

lakehead president and vice-chancellor dr. brian stevenson shared highlights from the annual report and his vision for the future of the thunder bay campus.

“as we celebrate 50 years of success in thunder bay, i am increasingly focussed and encouraged by what our future holds, including the drive to bring even more international 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 to our classrooms and communities, and increased and rewarding community outreach,” he said.

the annual report stated that lakehead thunder bay’s operating expenditures had an economic impact of $316 million on the city of thunder bay in 2014, and a $6-billion economic impact on the city over the last 50 years.

also highlighted in the report, lakehead received $22 million in external research funding in 2014, and re$earch infosource ranked the university second in ontario and third in canada in the undergraduate category.
