graduate 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 present at congress of humanities and social sciences

congratulations to ma 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 yawei zhang, peter delorenzi, and michael mcneil who presented papers in june at the annual meeting of the hungarian studies association of canada, which was part of the congress of humanities and social sciences held at the university of british columbia.

yawei (alex) zhang's paper looked at “the house of terror museum and the politics of memory in post-communist hungary.” peter delorenzi discussed “empire and the jewish experience in early twentieth-century hungary.” michael mcneil presented a paper on “franz nopcsa and the future of empire: the balkans and beyond.”

this was the first academic conference for all three, and they represented themselves and the department very well.

student’s paper ranked in the top 10% of the international undergraduate awards competition

history and concurrent education student peter walsh’s paper "history of the world organization of the scout movement: from the inception of scouting to 1939” has been ranked in the top 10% of this year's international undergraduate awards competition. peter’s submission resulted from research completed as part of his fourth year history seminars.

the undergraduate awards is the world’s leading undergraduate awards programme which recognizes top undergraduate work, shares this work with a global audience and connects 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 across cultures and disciplines. a non-profit organization, it has been under the patronage of the president of ireland, michael d. higgins, since 2012.

papers are adjudicated by a panel of experts from around the world to assess the entries submitted. peter has also been invited to the ua global summit 2017, an invitation-only event that will gather 150 of our highly commended entrants and global winners in dublin, ireland between november 7th-9th

faculty members recognized for contributions to northwestern ontario

congratulations to faculty members nathan hatton and kelly saxberg who were recognized last week by thunder bay-superior north mp patty hajdu for their contributions to northwestern ontario.

the superior northerners campaign celebrates people working to make a difference in northwestern ontario and the recipients were awarded certificates of recognition and canada 150 sesquicentennial pins last friday at the waverley resource library.

alumnus and faculty member elected president of alumni association

the department of history is pleased to announce that alumnus and former chair of the department dr. michel s. beaulieu has been elected as president of the alumni association of 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 . aalu logo

an award winning author and historian, michel s. beaulieu graduated from 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 with and hba in english and history and a bed in 2001. he completed an ma in history in 2003, before (reluctantly) leaving thunder bay to pursue a ph.d. at queen's university (2008).

since his days serving as a lusu representative on senate committees, michel has consistently been an active member of the community, volunteering his time within the university as well as regionally, nationally, and internationally. he is currently the vice-president and president-elect of the champlain society, vice-president of the ontario historical society, vice-president of the thunder bay historical museum society, and sits on the board of directors of a number of organizations including the multicultural history society of ontario.

numerous awards have recognized his work within the community work and as a historian. these include a northwestern ontario visionary award (2016), canadian forces liaison council's award of excellence for best practices in employer support: educational institution (2015), the city of thunder bay's heritage award (2011), and the alumni association's young alumni award (2010).

he has been a member of the alumni association board of directors since 2010, serving on numerous committees and as vice-president since 2014.

chair and associate professor of history dr. michel s. beaulieu has been elected as vice-president of the champlain society at its recent annual general meeting.champlain society logo

for over one hundred years, the champlain society has echoed the voices of some of canada’s most eloquent citizens throughout its mission to increase public awareness of, and accessibility to, canada’s rich store of historical records.through its books and digital collection, the society makes the adventures, explorations, discoveries, and opinions that have shaped canada available to all who have an interest in its past.

dr. beaulieu joins an esteemed group who have previously held the position. they range from noted academics such as harold innis, donald creighton and jennifer brown to former ontario premier leslie frost and former prime ministers robert borden and r.b. bennet.

on the 7 october the department of history was proud to recognized the contributions of two alumni and two community partners at its annual awards reception.

recipients of this year’s alumni honour awards were elinor barr (ba 1974, hba 1989) and mark chochla (ba 1967, hba 1975) for their contributions to their respective professions, the field of history, and ongoing support for the department.

the department also present the city of thunder bay archives and beth boegh with community partnership awards for their important role in the establishment and continuing success of our undergraduate and graduate programs.

the alumni honour and community partnership awards reception is held each year in an effort to recognize the achievements of talented and noteworthy alumni and community partners who have made significant contributions to their chosen field(s) and bring prestige and honour to the department of history through their connection to the institution as graduates.

the department of history is pleased to announce that our alumni and faculty have received 8 nominations for the thunder bay historical museum society’s 2015 publications awards.thunder bay museum logo

adjudicated by an independent panel of jurors, the awards are given out every two years for the best publications dealing with the history of northwestern ontario. awards are given in four categories: the m. elizabeth arthur award (full-length scholarly works); the j.p. bertrand award (scholarly articles); the gertrude h. dyke award (full-length popular works); and the george b. macgillivray award (popular articles).

congratulations to michel s. beaulieu, mark chochla, c. nathan hatton , roy piovesana, john potestio, and beverly soloway.

recipients of the awards will be announced at the thunder bay historical museum society's president's reception held on sunday, 4 january 2015 between 1:30 and 3:30 pm. at the thunder bay museum (425 donald street east).

new work makes substantial contribution to knowledge of the first world war

to mark the centenary of the outbreak of the first world war, the latest issue of the thunder bay historical museum society’s journal, papers & records, is devoted to northwestern ontario’s experience during the conflict.

original work by alumni, current 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 , and faculty members within the department of history and northern studies reflect the contribution - both at home and abroad - of a regional community to an event that help shape the twentieth century. this issue is also the last to be co-edited dr. peter raffo.

copies can be purchased at the thunder bay museum and will also be available at the symposium on the first world war being held on the 8 november.

faculty member elected to thunder bay historical museum society board of directors

dr. steven jobbitt has been elected to the thunder bay historical museum society’s board of directors. established in 1908, the thunder bay historical museum society is one of the oldest historical societies in canada. for over 100 years, its mandate has been to preserve and interpret the history of northwestern ontario through lectures, publications, the erection of monuments and plaques, and the preservation of documents.
