the canadian tree fund (ctf) is a registered canadian charity established to promote arboriculture research in canada. research grants have been awarded nationwide for worthy projects. individuals and/or agencies are invited to submit proposals for consideration. the scope of your proposal can vary in size with this grant being the sole source of funding or one of a variety of sources. the project will be evaluated with regard for the goals of the tree fund as a whole and the impact that can be made with each grant.

ontario genomics is pleased to announce that genome canada, in partnership with the canadian institutes of health research (cihr), is seeking proposals for research projects to address any aspect of bioinformatics and computational biology (b/cb) as it relates to genomics. proposals with applications across all of genome canada’s sectors are welcome. these include agriculture & agri-food, fisheries & aquaculture, forestry, energy, environment, human health and mining.

genome canada has identified b/cb as a priority area with the goal to create an environment that supports the creation and evolution of enhanced b/cb tools and methodologies. in august 2015, a b/cb advisory committee struck by genome canada and cihr released a consultative version of a strategic framework for the future of b/cb in canada. this competition builds on genome canada’s 2012 b/cb competition, also in partnership with cihr, and seeks to advance the objectives of the proposed b/cb national strategy.

the major objectives of this request for applications (rfa) are to:

1. support the development of next generation bioinformatics and computational biology tools and methodologies that will be required by the research community to deal with the influx of large amounts of data produced by modern genomics technologies; and,
2. provide broad access of these new bioinformatics and computational biology tools to the research community.

the ontario institute for cancer research (oicr) announces the availability of three funding opportunities
for research fellowships in transformative pathology. these awards have been created to increase the
opportunities for training pathologists in the area of molecular diagnostic pathology in ontario. trainees
will be located either at an ontario hospital or at oicr, and their training program will be established in
collaboration with the oicr transformative pathology program.
the transformative pathology fellowship has three streams:
1. full fellowship (three years)
2. intermediate/cip fellowship (two years)
3. introductory fellowship (six months)

full fellowship:
• must hold a medical degree and be currently enrolled in a speciality education program in
pathology in ontario, or have recently completed a residency program in pathology; and/or
• currently certified by the royal college of physicians and surgeons of canada in a field of speciality
in pathology and have received an offer for a full-time faculty or equivalent position in an ontariobased
institution.
intermediate fellowship:
• applicants should be in postgraduate years 3-5; and
• must be accepted into a clinician investigator program at their host institution.
introductory fellowship:
• applicants should be in postgraduate years 3-5; and
• must receive formal approval to participate in the transformative pathology fellowship program

the office of the privacy commissioner of canada (opc) has issued a new call for proposals under its 2016-17 contributions program, which funds independent privacy research and related knowledge translation initiatives.

the office invites proposals for projects that advance its new strategic privacy priorities:

• the economics of personal information
• government surveillance
• reputation and privacy
• the body as information

this year’s call is putting particular emphasis on innovative approaches that seek to better understand and address issues related to our priorities.  the maximum amount that can be awarded for any single project is $50,000 and a maximum of $100,000 can be awarded per organization.

the cihr-ipph trailblazer award in population health solutions is a career achievement award that recognizes exceptional contributions in the area of population health intervention research. applicants must have made substantial impacts on the field of population health and its use in policy and/or practice in canada and/or internationally. the award also recognizes the leadership, mentorship, and innovative contributions of the recipients. up to two awards will be given, for exceptional researchers at different career stages.

the ministry of health and long-term care (mohltc) is pleased to announce the call for notice of intent and full applications for the 2016/17 hsrf calls for targeted research competition. the purpose of the hsrf calls for targeted research is to solicit and fund focused research applications within the following three (3) mohltc priority areas: nursing, problem gambling and tobacco control.

for each of the three (3) priority areas, key knowledge gaps related to current/anticipated policy development and program development were identified as targeted research areas of interest for policy makers and knowledge users through a consultative process.

please refer to the detailed hsrf calls for targeted research full application instructions for definitions of targeted research priority areas and areas of focus.

as in the 2013/14 hsrf calls for targeted research, applicants will be assessed on the extent to which sex and gender have been considered in their proposed research (i.e., rationale, methods and knowledge translation and exchange (kte) plan). four additional cross-cutting components have also been identified for hsrf awards and applicants are encouraged to incorporate any/all of these components into their projects where applicable and/or feasible. these cross-cutting components are:

• equity
• aboriginal health
• patient-centred care
• implementation science
