how to apply: 

this funding opportunity is expected to:

  • support indigenous community-based health research that reflects the priorities and values of indigenous peoples;
  • develop an indigenous community-based health research network environment that will support indigenous leadership and research-related organizations with existing and new research infrastructures and platforms;
  • augment awareness, capacity and relevance of indigenous health research that improves the health of first nations, inuit and métis peoples across all health research domains;
  • improve understanding of indigenous health research and indigenous research paradigms through ethical and impactful partnerships between indigenous communities and health researchers, scholars, professors and instructors, research administrators, policy and decision makers, and other parties with an interest in indigenous health research;
  • engage indigenous peoples in canada in leading and conducting health research and kt;
  • engage with researchers, indigenous peoples, and other relevant parties from different countries as appropriate, in order to advance the objectives of the neihr centres; and
  • develop enduring neihr centres with sustainable mandates to build research capacity, conduct research, advance indigenous research paradigms, and carry out kt activities.

team grant : indigenous component of healthy life trajectories (i-helti)

how to apply: 

the overall goals of the helti initiative are to:

  • generate evidence that will inform national policy and decision making for the improvement of health and the prevention of non-communicable diseases (ncds).
  • position canada as a global leader in the dohad field.

the objectives of this funding opportunity are to:

  • establish the infrastructure, capacity and partnerships necessary to develop and ultimately conduct an indigenous-driven i-helti dohad intervention cohort research study, including:
    • recruiting women, both preconception and during pregnancy, their infants and the fathers;
    • designing an intervention to develop, conduct and evaluate interventions for and with women and men during preconception, pregnancy and, for infants, during the postnatal period to substantially reduce the prevalence of ncds;
    • conducting evaluative and mechanistic studies that will explain the effect of the selected interventions on outcomes, including epigenetic and economic analyses of interventions; and
    • developing governance processes, including research data management practices.
  • develop cross-community collaborations that will provide a multi-disciplinary learning platform and training environment for early career researchers and trainees;
  • generate evidence that will guide policy and other decision making, and identify opportunities for future research and interventions as part of a longer-term strategy for ncd prevention;
  • decrease the incidence of risk factors for later-life ncds by targeting early exposures and early development, particularly related to women and men’s health preconception, during pregnancy, early life and in early childhood.
  • establish a platform for sustained investment through long-term indigenous community engagement and institutional commitments.

the msca rise program, part of the horizon 2020 initiative, promotes international and cross-sector collaboration through exchanging research and innovation staff, and sharing knowledge and ideas from research to market (and vice-versa).  deadline: 02 april 2019.

the msca rise program provides grants that enable researchers and staff to undertake short-term exchanges with partner organizations around the world (can include including universities, research institutes, as well as industrial or commercial partners). partnerships must include at least two partners from the eu or associated countries, but can be global in scope. all fields are eligible, and funding can last for up to four years.  non-eu participation is determined through bilateral agreements with local criteria; canadian participation in the msca rise program is co-funded by mitacs.

msca rise staff exchange program (hosting opportunities):  secondment of european staff (includes phd 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 , faculty, research staff, and administrative or technical staff) can last from one month to one year. canadian 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 and faculty, as well as staff at research institutes and companies, can host. proposals must highlight knowledge creation, sharing know-how, and skills development.

worth $100,000 each, the awards distinguish scientific excellence and community engagement that contribute to overcoming the challenges our world will face in feeding 9 billion people and beyond. 

the first award recognizes a researcher (or group of researchers) who has advanced understanding of food production, processing, distribution, consumption, safety, or human nutrition, with a significant positive impact on society. 

the second award recognizes an individual (or group of individuals) who has contributed to improved nutritional health or food security, with a focus on strengthening disadvantaged communities.

crohn’s and colitis canada innovations in ibd research competition

crohn's and colitis canada is currently accepting applications for its 2019 innovations in ibd research competition. the innovations program supports novel or innovative approaches to inflammatory bowel disease (ibd). this grant is intended to stimulate and support research which may not be encompassed within the boundaries of traditional medical research. research proposals must conform to sound principles of research and may aim to collect pilot data for follow-on application(s). our organization seeks mission relevance and excellence as well as innovation.

global affairs canada - elap faculty mobility grants (for latin america and the caribbean)

the elap faculty mobility program aims to increase the number of institutional collaborations and student exchange agreements between canadian and foreign institutions eligible under the emerging leaders in the americas program (elap). the program provides full-time canadian faculty with short-term opportunities to teach or conduct research in latin america and the caribbean, at the college, undergraduate, and graduate levels.

grants of up to cad 7,000 will be awarded for stays of 3 to 8 weeks; awards can be combined with other funding sources for longer stays.  funds must be spent by march 31, 2020.
