through its postdoctoral fellowship program, canadian blood services offers salary support for young investigators. postdoctoral fellows undertaking full-time research training in a canadian research laboratory affiliated with canadian blood services are invited to apply. the fellowship provides salary support plus benefits, and a one-time research allowance of $20,000. fellows may be supported for a maximum of three years.

canadian blood services is pleased to announce its 2019 blood efficiency accelerator award program competition. the objective of the program is to improve the efficient and appropriate utilization of blood products, while maintaining the safety of the blood system.

examples of projects funded through this program in previous competitions include:

• a program to minimize preventable and inappropriate blood product transfusions in liver surgery
• feasibility in canada for a non-invasive prenatal testing using single-exon fetal rhd determination
• assessment of the quality of granulocyte concentrates to optimize their use in transfusion therapy

the genomic applications partnership program (gapp) funds downstream research and development (r&d) projects that address real world opportunities and challenges defined by “receptor” organizations such as industry, government, or not-for-profit entities. these organizations should be committed to commercializing or implementing the outcomes of the project.

projects are led by the receptor organization (canadian or international) but are active collaborations with a canadian academic researcher. these projects are co-funded by receptors and other stakeholders and must have the potential to generate significant social and/or economic benefits for canada.

the gapp aims to:

individual fellowships provide opportunities to experienced researchers of any nationality to acquire and transfer new knowledge and to work on research and innovation in europe (eu member states and horizon 2020 associated countries) and beyond. the goal of the msc-if program is to enhance the creative and innovative potential of experienced researchers, wishing to diversify their individual competence in terms of skill acquisition through advanced training, international and intersectoral mobility.

fellowships last from 1-2 years, and can include a secondment period of 3 – 6 months with another organisation in europe.

the grant provides an allowance to cover living, travel and family costs. in addition, the eu contributes to the training, networking and research costs of the fellow, as well as to the management and indirect costs of the project.

the grant is awarded to the host organisation, usually a university, research centre or a company in europe.

how to apply:
you submit a research proposal, including your cv. the proposal is written jointly with your chosen host organisation(s). the maximum length of a proposal is 10 pages, excluding the cv of the researcher and the annexes.

a career development plan should be established jointly by the host institution supervisor(s) and the researcher. in addition to research or innovation objectives, this plan comprises the researcher's training and career needs, including training on transferable skills, teaching, planning for publications and participation in conferences.
