ta 39 - thermal comfort testing of canadian armed forces operational uniforms

how to apply: 

the objective of this work is to assess thermal performance of current in-service combat clothing configurations a)-c). 

 
this assessment is to include quantitative and qualitative data collection in the form of: 
a) participant testing in controlled temperature environment as identified in the scope section below; 
b) complete thermal assessment of various testing configurations; and 
c) development and administration of perceived thermal comfort surveys following testing for each participant. 
 
the results of this work will aid to better inform acquisition personnel throughout the development of the next generation operational uniform with improved thermal performance capability. this will in turn help in mitigating occurrence of thermal fatigue, heat exhaustion and heat stroke for caf members.

the dr. r. k. dewar medical research grant was established in 1987 by ms. helen dewar to honour the life and work of her brother dr. robert kerr dewar. dr. dewar had faith in the future and progress of medical science and had a keen interest in cutting edge research of his day. he was particularly interested in neuro-regeneration and molecular biology.

connection grants are expected to respond to the objectives of the connection program.

call for expressions of interest: case studies and prototypes for gendered design in steam

how to apply: 

gender considerations, especially pertaining to women, are often overlooked and/or under-represented in technical, scientific, and design fields. funding from this call will support researchers in lmics to adopt and share research and design methods and practices that bring gender considerations to the development of technology-based solutions to improve lives and livelihoods for all, and particularly for women and other disadvantaged people.

this call will be of interest to lmic researchers who are currently involved in the conceptualization, design, and/or production of technology-based solutions, applications, methods, and processes. they are invited to submit expressions of interest in one of two streams:

  • stream 1: case studies – 15 to 20 grants valued at ca$10,000 to ca$15,000
  • stream 2: case study + prototype – 10 grants valued at a maximum of ca$35,000

expressions of interest must pertain to innovations linked to steam fields, with particular interest in the following sectors:

  • transport/mobility;
  • renewable energy;
  • manufacturing;
  • housing;
  • infrastructure; and
