how to apply: 

the university of the arctic (uarctic) call is now open for applications for networking projects in arctic research and education.

who can apply?

uarctic and danish agency for higher education and science (dahes) encourage engagement between the kingdom of denmark’s uarctic member institutions, and other uarctic member institutions for uarctic activities. the main applicant has to come from an uarctic member university in greenland, denmark or the faroe islands. a complete and updated  list of member institutions can be found on the uarctic website. the main applicant and project lead institution needs to be a uarctic member.

amount of funding
the funding is targeted to support new cooperative projects on networking activities related to arctic research and education, across all fields of science. projects may be funded with a maximum total of 500,000 dkk. in total 1 754 111 dkk has been allocated for this call by the dahes.  

funding cannot be applied retrospectively and you cannot apply for funding for activities already carried out at the time when the funding decision is made.

duration of the project
projects can have a maximum duration of two years within the timeframe september 1, 2022 to august 31, 2024.

youth employment and skills program

how to apply: 

the youth employment and skills program (yesp) delivered by agriculture and agri-food canada is now accepting applications for the 2022-2023 program year.  applications will be accepted between february 28, 2022 and march 21, 2022.

the youth employment and skills program will contribute approximately $3.7 million in wage subsidies to employers who hire youth (between the age of 15 and 30 inclusive) for agricultural jobs.  projects may start as early as april 1, 2022 and end no later than march 31, 2023.

new this year, the program will focus on youth facing employment barriers. the list of barriers is as follows:

  • indigenous
  • living with a physical disability
  • living with a diagnosed mental health disability
  • visible minorities
  • recent immigrant
  • residing in a remote location
  • living in a low income household
  • single parent
  • early school leaver

support is available for ontario-based projects with at least $3 million in eligible costs undertaken through a collaboration of:

this funding opportunity is designed to support a national network organized to:

  • identify instances where canadian model organism expertise is relevant to a newly discovered disease gene. when such instances are found, a research project would be initiated to explore the functional characterization of the gene.
  • build on the established partnerships with programs developed in other regions/countries (modelled on the canadian rare diseases: models & mechanisms network) to:
    • support international partnerships when no compatible model can be identified in canada; and
    • allow genes identified by clinicians in other countries to be studied by canadian biomedical scientists.
  • enable the broadening of the modelling scope by supporting the entire scope of model systems available, including: new yeast models, animal models, patient derived tissue and organoid models.

the specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to:

  • establish a multi-stakeholder pediatric cancer consortium which covers the cancer control continuum from prevention to diagnosis, treatment to survivorship that encompasses the breadth of stakeholders and knowledge-users with a transparent, inclusive multi-jurisdictional recruitment and membership process, meaningful engagement with partners and innovative international research collaborations.

  • build capacity for the next generation of pediatric cancer researchers through training and mentorship opportunities embedded and interconnected across the consortium and capacity for people with lived and living experience to engage meaningfully in the research ecosystem.
  • maximize research impact and knowledge mobilization within and beyond the consortium to help ensure evidence is integrated in and used to inform health policy, decision making and planning.

the specific objectives of this funding opportunity are:

launch of round 11 of the ontario research fund -research excellence (orf-re) program

how to apply: 

overview

the ministry of colleges and universities has launched round 11 of its ontario research fund -research excellence (orf-re) program.  the overall purpose of this program is to provide research institutions with the funding necessary to support the operational costs of major projects that are of strategic value to the province of ontario.


orf-re program funding ratio and application streams
the orf-re program will provide up to one third of the total cost of a project, with the remaining two thirds coming from a combination of contributions from the private sector and the institution.  the orf-re round 11 call is made up of two application funding streams:

stream 1: general – basic and applied research
this stream:
  • is open to all research disciplines
  • funds projects from $500,000 to $2,000,000
  • funds projects up to a maximum of 5 years
stream 2: targeted – experimental research
this stream:
  • funds projects that demonstrate strong commercialization potential, where the innovation is at a technology readiness level (trl) of 3 or higher
  • targets projects in the following sectors:
  • information communications technologies
  • life sciences and medical devices
  • industrial technologies
  • requires collaboration with an ontario-based company
  • funds projects from $300,000 to $1,000,000
  • funds projects up to a maximum of 4 years
please note that for both of the above streams, priority will be given to applications that are focused on:
  • connected, autonomous, electric vehicles (including battery and powertrain technology) 
  • industrial/mining technologies related to electric vehicles, spanning the entire value chain from minerals to manufacturing to recovering resources from vehicles or their component parts at end-of-life.

 

eligible contributions and expenditures 

from the program guidelines:  "contributions, both in-kind and cash, are eligible if received (but not spent) up to one year before the application due date. since the application due date for this round is march 21, 2022, contributions secured after march 21, 2021 (but not spent) are eligible. expenditures are only eligible after the project starts. the earliest a project can start is september 28, 2021 which is the date the current round was announced."

how to apply: 

dissertation fieldwork grants for up to $20,000 are awarded to individuals enrolled in a doctoral program to support dissertation research.  applicants must be engaged in research that contributes to anthropological knowledge. applicants of any nationality or country of residence may apply.

post-ph.d. research grants for up to $20,000 are awarded to individuals holding a ph.d. or equivalent degree to support individual research projects. applicants must be engaged in research that makes a significant contribution to anthropological knowledge, theory and debate. applicants of any nationality or country of residence may apply

fejos postdoctoral fellowships in
ethnographic film provide up to $40,000 towards the completion of an ethnographic film that is based on anthropological research already accomplished by the applicant. the fellowship is awarded to early career scholars, who frequently lack the time and resources they need forfilm production. applicants should be no more than ten years beyond their phd, with allowances made for periods of caregiving, and have a doctorate in anthropology or an equivalent field.

hunt postdoctoral fellowships (writing) provide up to $40,000 towards the writing-up of already completed research. the fellowship is awarded to early career scholars, who frequently lack the time and resources they need to publish their work. applicants should be no more than ten years beyond their phd, with allowances made for periods of caregiving, and have a doctorate in anthropology or an equivalent field.
