request for proposals translational funding – 2017-2018

how to apply:

background and description of opportunity
the canadian glycomics network (glyconet) is a network of centres of excellence that focuses on the role of glycans (carbohydrates) in health. areas of focus are therapeutic proteins & vaccines, antimicrobials and chronic disease, in particular diabetes & obesity, genetic diseases involving errors in glycan metabolism, and cancer. ad-ditional information about network research can be found at www.glyconet.ca.

a key goal of glyconet is the translation of research advances into novel products for treating disease. accordingly this request for proposals seeks to fund more mature projects needing network support to de-risk and advance them to a state at which translation is possible.

requirements
projects should:
• be aligned with one of the glyconet research themes (see glyconet.ca).
• be multidisciplinary and involve at least two research groups.
• must have an articulated ip and patentability strategy.
• be accompanied by a commercialisation plan provided by the technology transfer office of the project leader’s institution.
• have a clear endpoint, successful completion of which would attract a potential partner.
• ability to demonstrate partner support is preferred.

funding available
glyconet has set aside up to $600,000 for this competition. proposals may request up to $200,000 in funding. it is anticipated that projects will be completed within 12 months; justification should be provided for longer funding periods. continued funding for projects past the 12-month period will be considered on a case-by-case basis in consultation with the commercialization committee.

eligibility
this opportunity is open only to individuals eligible to hold tri-council funds; i.e., the canadian institutes of health research (cihr), the natural sciences and engineering research council of canada (nserc) or the social sci-ences and humanities research council of canada (sshrc).

an individual may serve as the project leader on only one translational funding application and may not be in-volved in more than two translational funding applications. simultaneous application for phase i and phase ii funding for the same project is not allowed.

the joseph and wolf lebovic cancer genomics and immunity fellowship program

how to apply:

the joseph and wolf lebovic foundation, in collaboration with oicr and the hebrew university’s institute for medical research israel-canada (hu-imric), are offering fellowships to graduate 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 and postdoctoral fellows under the newly established the joseph and wolf lebovic cancer genomics and immunity fellowship program.

beginning in may 2017, we will offer two $37,500/yr fellowships annually, each two years in duration, for collaborative research projects that address the interactions between cancer and immune cells. the application process is simple and requires a two-page proposal, name and cv of the principal investigator and nominated trainee. oicr is making its portion of the funding available to support cancer researchers based at any ontario institution.

the opportunity is designed to foster collaboration between oicr and hu-imric. for this reason, applications must be joint between an ontario pi & trainee and an hu-imric pi & trainee. to help potential collaborators identify each other, we have set up an online spreadsheet at https://goo.gl/dn5vfd.

knowledge to action grants

how to apply:

this knowledge to action grant has been created to encourage research projects that will close the gap between what is known from research and what is done with that knowledge in the health care community and public health practice. these grants are intended to provide funding for research projects that build on existing cancer research findings and aim to improve outcomes and experiences through knowledge translation (kt) for people and populations at risk, patients, their families and communities across the cancer trajectory e.g., to assist knowledge users (researchers, practitioners, policy makers, ccs program delivery staff and/or volunteers) in their awareness of knowledge or innovations and facilitating their use in health or healthcare system improvement. the grant should incorporate the principles of knowledge translation including knowledge synthesis, dissemination, exchange and/or ethically sound application of knowledge to improve health and the health system.

prevention innovation grants

how to apply:

innovation grants have been created to support innovative, creative problem solving in cancer research. as competition for grant funding increases, peer review panels become more conservative and risk averse, emphasizing feasibility more than innovation. the goal of this ccsri grant program is to support unconventional concepts, approaches or methodologies to address problems in cancer research. innovation projects will include elements of creativity, curiosity, investigation, exploration and opportunity. successful projects may be based on “high risk” ideas, but will have the potential for “high reward” (i.e. to significantly impact our understanding of cancer and generate new approaches to combat the disease by introducing novel ideas into use or practice).

research, measurement, evaluation and knowledge transfer activities

how to apply:

the government of canada, through indigenous and northern affairs canada, is investing $1.5 million annually in new research, measurement, evaluation and knowledge transfer activities under the new paths for education program.

this new investment aims to increase awareness and knowledge of best practices in indigenous education among educators, policy-makers and first nation leaders across canada. it will:
