health system research fund (hsrf) calls for targeted research

how to apply:

the purpose of the hsrf calls for targeted research is to solicit and fund focused research applications within the following three (3) mohltc priority areas: nursing, problem gambling and tobacco control.

for each of the three (3) priority areas, key knowledge gaps related to current/anticipated policy development and program development were identified as targeted research areas of interest for policy makers and knowledge users through a consultative process.

if you would like to respond to more than one targeted research question during this call, separate applications must be completed for each targeted research question. the ministry intends to fund at least one project for each targeted research question, with a budget of $50,000 - $250,000/year over two fiscal years.

to assist in planning for the review process, the mohltc requests that interested calls for targeted research applicants submit a completed notice of intent (noi) using the online form by tuesday, october 1, 2013.

health system research fund (hsrf) capacity awards

how to apply:

the purpose of the hsrf capacity awards is to build knowledge translation and exchange (kte) and research capacity across the career path in health services and population health research in twelve (12) key priority areas:

  • community-based care
  • innovation, with a focus on drugs
  • healthy living, with a focus on tobacco control
  • health system performance and sustainability
  • mental health and addictions
  • vulnerable and special health needs populations
  • nursing research
  • primary care reform
  • problem gambling
  • quality improvement and safety
  • seniors' care
  • women's health

applications for capacity awards must address one or more of these areas of importance to knowledge users engaged in shaping policies, programs and practices.  research and stand alone kte projects must make a measurable impact on the ontario health system in terms of educational, policy or health outcome measures within the three-year funding cycle.

the capacity awards will support evidence based policy and practice by supporting both research and stand alone kte projects.  all research projects are required to include a kte strategy.  where appropriate, instructions are tailored for research vs. stand alone kte applications.

the minimum support provided through the capacity awards is $150,000 annually for three years and the maximum support provided is $350,000 annually for three years.

the capacity awards are intended to support capacity building, including new/mid-career health services and population health researchers and kte professionals in applied and academic settings.  priority will be given to applications where the lead is a new/mid-career research/kte professional (e.g., has obtained a full time professional degree or phd within the last 10 years) and the co-lead has a demonstrated capacity to provide mentorship over the course of the project.

to assist in planning for the review process, the mohltc requests that interested capacity awards applicants submit a completed notice of intent (noi) using the online form by friday, october 4, 2013. the noi is strictly for administrative purposes – it will not be evaluated, nor will it be shared with the review panel. you must create a username and password for the online form.  you will be able to save and review your noi before submitting. you will receive an email acknowledgement of receipt of your noi submission within 48 hours.

call for nois ontario aero r&td challenge

how to apply:

ontario centres of excellence (oce), the ontario ministry of research and innovation, the ontario aerospace council (oac) and the natural sciences and engineering research council of canada (nserc) are working to support collaborative research and technology development (r & td) projects by ontario industry companies and academic research partners through oce’s voucher for industry association r&d challenge program.

the ontario aerospace r&td challenge is a $2.5 million program initiative supporting areas of technology that are strategically important to the ontario aerospace sector. goals of the program include commercialization and increased productivity with significant economic benefit for ontario (jobs, revenues, etc.) and program partners.

in september 2013, oac and oce hosted an ontario aerospace industry-academic technology roadmap workshop and partnership forum in collaboration with nserc. the event helped identify the specific areas of technology that play a key role in the ontario aerospace industry, which have been translated into the focus areas for the r&td projects. this forum also provided networking opportunities for potential collaborators to discuss ideas for project proposals.

how funding works

oce, in partnership with industry and nserc, will support approximately five qualified projects (each lasting up to two years) which undertake research and development in the strategic technology focus areas and demonstrate an economic benefit to ontario's aerospace sector.

qualified projects will address one or more strategic technology  focus areas:

  • advanced and engineered materials
  • advanced manufacturing
  • autonomous systems
  • electric power
  • ergonomics
  • simulation methods and tools

oce will provide funding of up to $100,000 per project. to qualify for oce funding, applicants must secure a minimum of 2:1 cash plus in-kind matching from industry. the cash contribution must match 100 per cent of the amount requested from oce; i.e. if oce contributes $100,000 per project, the industry contribution must be a minimum of $100,000 cash plus $100,000 in-kind.   - see more at: http://www.oce-ontario.org/programs/collaboration-voucher-program/via/ontario-aerospace-r-td-challenge#sthash.kq5rsosx.dpuf
