social entrepreneurship fellowships

how to apply:

ontario centres of excellence (oce) is funding individual scholars and researchers in social sciences and humanities research to support knowledge mobilization activities and to create innovative start-ups with an economic impact in ontario. the program supports knowledge mobilization activities such as networking, disseminating, exchanging and co-creating research-based knowledge in ontario and innovation/intellectual property developed in an ontario publicly funded research institution (college or university).

the social entrepreneurship fellowship builds on the objectives of the social sciences and humanities research council’s (sshrc’s) connection grants and provides an opportunity to leverage funds for successful applicants. under this one-year co-funded program, sshrc recognizes oce as a source for the matching funds required for a connection grant, allowing applicants to apply to sshrc without having to source their own matching funds.

how funding works

oce will co-fund up to ten (10) applications with sshrc.

awards are subject to a successful submission to oce and, subsequently, sshrc's connection grants funding opportunity.

under the terms of a connection grant, sshrc does not fund the full cost of any connection activity. additional cash and /or in-kind support equivalent to a minimum of 50 per cent of the amount requested from sshrc must come from other sources. under this agreement, sshrc recognizes oce as a source of support for the connection activity.

awardees receive up to $50,000 ($25,000 from oce and $25,000 from sshrc) for one year. funds will be administered by the academic institution.

centres for hiv/aids research

how to apply:

the centres for hiv/aids population health and health services research program builds on its predecessor the centres for population health and health services research development in hiv/aids program, which was launched in 2007. in 2012, a mid-term evaluation of the original program was conducted and this new program builds on the strengths of the previous program and the funded centres and aims to further enhance the impact of the program on the hiv epidemic in canada. it represents a major investment by the cihr hiv/aids research initiative, which is supported by the federal initiative to address hiv/aids in canada, and is expected make an important contribution to the national response to hiv/aids.

the centres for hiv/aids population health and health services research program will provide core infrastructure funding for multi-jurisdictional and multidisciplinary teams of researchers and their stakeholders. the funded centres will specialize in health and policy research on: 1) the social, cultural environmental and individual determinants driving the hiv/aids epidemic; and/or 2) health services for people living with or at risk of hiv. the centres will build on strengths of the research community and opportunities to engage in innovative, collaborative and meaningful ways with communities, policy makers and program managers in different regions of the country. it will mobilize the talent, expertise and capacity of different sectors and jurisdictions to solve current and emerging challenges with the ongoing transmission of hiv and for people living with hiv in canada. the overall goal of the centres will be to improve health and access to effective programs and services for people living with and at risk of hiv, particularly for populations most affected (e.g., aboriginal communities, men who have sex with men). the centres are expected to work with one another and other relevant networks and partners in order to minimize duplication of efforts and maximize impacts and contributions to reductions in hiv transmission and improved health outcomes for canadians.
