call for proposals: quebec-ontario cooperation for agri-food research competition

how to apply:

proposals are invited for the 2014-2015 quebec-ontario cooperation for agri-food research competition

purpose of the program

one of the aims of the ontario–quebec trade and cooperation agreement is to improve the competitive position of the agriculture and agri-processing sectors. both provinces recognize the mutual benefits of developing common responses to the challenges facing these sectors.

the ministère de l’agriculture, des pêcheries et de l’alimentation du québec (mapaq) and the ontario ministry of agriculture and food and the ministry of rural affairs (omaf and mra) have therefore developed a joint research competition on research topics of mutual interest to both provinces.

the program objectives are as follows:

Ÿ  develop solutions to agri-food issues shared by quebec and ontario

Ÿ  encourage partnerships between quebec and ontario researchers

Ÿ  enhance graduate student training through internships in the cooperating province

it is expected that the outcomes of the joint projects will be greater than can be achieved by projects undertaken independently in each province.  therefore, proposals must clearly describe the value of the collaboration between the two provinces (e.g. may relate to identification of common sector issues, data sharing, knowledge transfer, complementary expertise, validation, expanded networks and partnerships etc.).

research priorities

proposals are solicited that will generate new knowledge and/or technologies in the following areas:

Ÿ  integrated pest management

Ÿ  water management

additional details about the research priorities can be accessed at the links provided below.

who may apply

universities and non-profit, non-governmental applied research centres are eligible to apply. each application must be submitted jointly by a research institution based in quebec and another based in ontario.

other public or private research institutions and organizations can contribute to the project as research team members or partners/co-funders. this includes colleges, government departments, industry associations and businesses.

how to apply

the competition consists of a single-stage application process, and each project requires a co-lead from an ontario and quebec institution.  applications are to be completed using the proposal form, 2014-2015 quebec-ontario cooperation for agri-food research competition. the form is available in french and english. applicants can complete and save this interactive pdf form. the application form, as well as the competition guide with complete program details, is available on the omaf and mra and mapaq websites at the following addresses:

http://www.omafra.gov.on.ca/english/research/onqc_research/index.html

http://www.omafra.gov.on.ca/french/research/onqc_research/index.html

http://www.mapaq.gouv.qc.ca/innovaction select volet 1 – recherche appliquée page.

the application deadline is tuesday, september 16, 2014 at 4 p.m.  the completed application form and their appendices, if any, must be emailed by the co-leads respective research institutions' research offices or any other equivalent authority for approval purposes as described in the competition guide. researchers must allow sufficient time for their institution’s internal approval process.
