connection grants

how to apply:

connection grants support events and outreach activities geared toward short-term, targeted knowledge mobilization initiatives. these events and activities represent opportunities to exchange knowledge and to engage on research issues of value to those participating. events and outreach activities funded by a connection grant may often serve as a first step toward more comprehensive and longer-term projects potentially eligible for funding through other sshrc funding opportunities.

connection grants proposals are expected to meet the objectives of the connection program. the objectives of the connection program are to:

  • facilitate the multidirectional flow of social sciences and humanities knowledge among researchers and between the campus and the larger community, in order to enhance intellectual, cultural, social and economic influence, benefit, and impact;
  • increase the accessibility and use of social sciences and humanities research knowledge among academic and non-academic audiences;
  • support the building of reciprocal relationships among social sciences and humanities researchers, and between social sciences and humanities researchers and those in a position to either co-create or use research knowledge;
  • support the development of social sciences and humanities research networks and tools designed to facilitate scholarly work; and
  • make such networks and tools more accessible to non-academic audiences.

connection grants support workshops, colloquiums, conferences, forums, summer institutes or other events or outreach activities that facilitate:

  • disciplinary and/or interdisciplinary exchanges in the humanities and social sciences;
  • scholarly exchanges between those working in the social sciences and humanities and those working in other research fields;
  • intersectoral exchanges between academic researchers in the humanities and social sciences and researchers and practitioners from the public, private and/or not-for-profit sectors; and/or
  • international research collaboration and scholarly exchanges between researchers, 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 and non-academic partners from other countries.

assistid fellowships in intellectual disabilities and autism - first call for proposals

how to apply:

assistid is a €9m marie curie collaborative research program to develop assistive technologies for intellectual disability and autism. it is cofunded by the european commission and the irish charity respect. it is the largest program of its kind in europe and will train experienced researchers in the skills necessary to make a difference in the lives of people with autism and intellectual disability (id) through improved communication, social inclusion and education. this is the first time a network of multidisciplinary researchers have come together on this scale to collaborate and develop assistive technologies for those with autism and id.

we wish to attract top quality international fellows from a broad range of disciplines including behaviour analysis, rehabilitation, computer vision, robotics, policy, ethics, special education, engineering and augmentative and alternative communication. while a successful proposal must have an aspect of technology application, this does not necessitate the development of new technologies or exclude behavioral and social scientists. researchers from these fields can assess the impact or application of existing technology in a specific cohort or situation (education, vocational rehabilitation or the teaching social skills for example). it is vital that all disciplines are involved in this programme to allow us to understand and maximize the practical impact of technology on the lives of those with disabilities.

assistid offers a fantastic opportunity for researchers to obtain expert training as a prestigious marie curie fellow, experience international mobility and to learn the skills to become leaders in research, practice and policy. more information is available on the flyer here

this call for proposals is open until march 31st 2015. please contact sheeona gorman if you have any questions.

collaborative research and training experience (create) program: 2016 competition

how to apply:

nserc collaborative research and training experience (create) program:  2016 competition - internal call for proposals

1.  goals of the create program
nserc's create program supports the training of teams of highly qualified 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 and postdoctoral fellows from canada and abroad through the development of innovative training programs that:
  • encourage collaborative and integrative approaches, and address significant scientific challenges associated with canada’s research priorities; and
  • facilitate the transition of new researchers from trainees to productive employees in the canadian workforce.
these innovative programs must include the acquisition and development of important professional skills among 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 and postdoctoral fellows that complement their qualifications and technical skills.

create initiatives should enourage:

  • student mobility, nationally or internationally, between individual universities and between universities and other sectors;
  • interdisciplinary research within the natural sciences and engineering (nse), or at the interface between the nse and health, or the social sciences and humanities. however, the main focus of the training must still lie within the nse;
  • increased collaboration between industry and academia; and
  • for the industrial stream, an additional objective is to support improved job-readiness within the industrial sector by exposing participants to the specific challenges of this sector and training people with the skills identified by industry.
successful applicants will consist of a group of accomplished researchers who will work collaboratively to offer a defined research training program to a group of trainees. this environment will provide trainees with experience relevant to both academic and non-academic careers. the research training experience should focus on providing an enriched training experience for graduate (master’s and doctoral) 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 .

create projects will be recognized for:
  • their innovative nature to create a rich research training environment;
  • the excellence of the researchers, and their success in training highly skilled and educated personnel for future employment in all sectors including industry, government and academia;
  • their capacity to raise the standard for best practices in research training and development of professional skills of new researchers; and
  • encouraging student mobility, as appropriate, either between different canadian universities, or between the universities and potential workplaces or among participating canadian and international institutions, thus promoting international awareness.

eligibility conditions for applicants, co-applicants and institutions apply. create grants are tenable only at nserc-eligible canadian universities and the applicant must hold an eligible position at that university. researchers at non-eligible organizations may participate as collaborators.

2.  how to apply/internal deadline/additional requirements

applying to the create program involves a two phase application process:

phase 1: letter of intent

phase 2: application (if invited only)

the create program is highly selective, with pre-screening based on the letter of intent. only applicants successful at the letter of intent stage will be invited to submit a full application.

internal process/quota
a yearly quota has been established for each university and only those researchers selected at their university can submit letters of intent.  under its assigned quota, 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 can submit up to two letters of intent to the create  program.  therefore, researchers are asked by february 13 to indicate to the office of research services (e-mail to ahacquo1@lakeheadu.ca) if they plan to submit a letter of intent to nserc. if more than two applicants indicate that they intend to submit a letter of intent, an internal competition will need to be held to determine which two lois are submitted by the nserc deadline of may 1 competition.

resources

more information on the program can be found at: http://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/professors-professeurs/grants-subs/create-foncer_eng.asp

please note the create program guidelines for the 2016 competition have not yet been posted.  once they have been posted, researchers should consult the new guidelines and loi form/instructions once nserc has posted them to ensure that they have completed their lois properly.
