defence research and development canada (drdc) is investigating novel methods of stereopsis assessment and the operational requirements for stereopsis and binocular vision in military aircrew. the objective of this work is to conduct empirical studies on operational vision requirements for stereopsis and binocular visual processing in aircrew.

the canadian institute for military and veteran health research (cimvhr) has entered into partnership with the government of canada to procure research and development services related to the mental, social and physical wellbeing of active military members, veterans and their families. cimvhr is seeking notices of interest from qualified researchers or a research team to enter into a contract with cimvhr to produce this work.

the successful candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:

  • a phd in psychology;
  • demonstrated expertise and experience in conducting the type of vision assessment required by the scope of work and a substantial history of publication in the research area;
  • demonstrated experience in research design and analysis appropriate to the scope of work;
  • has access to facilities for conducting state-of-the-art research as per requirements of sow;
  • a faculty appointment at the rank of associate professor or above in the department of psychology or other department with a focus on vision science at one of cimvhr’s
  • 37 partner universities (a list of partner universities is available at https://cimvhr.ca/university-partners);
  • be able to meet project deliverables within stated timelines
  • work experience with and or knowledge of the unique operational environment and vision requirements of canadian armed forces aircrew is an asset;

  • their cv, and the cv’s of any research team members proposed if applicable;

ontario-israel collaboration program (oicp) 

submission deadline for completed applications: monday, august 31, 2015  

eligible applicants

this call invites applicants – at least one industrial partner from ontario and at least one industrial partner from israel – to propose shared research projects for the development of innovative products or processes. the maximum duration of a project is 24 months. special consideration will be given to projects in the following four areas:

  • clean technologies
  • life sciences and medical devices
  • cyber security and other information and communication technologies

funding

successful ontario applicants are eligible to receive up to $300,000 cad or up to 50% of the r&d costs of technology-based products and processes (whichever is less) from the ministry of research and innovation (mri) through ciirdf to fund the ontario portion of each project.

successful israeli applicants are eligible to receive funding from the office of the chief scientist (ocs), the ministry of economy, israel, to support the israel portion of the project under the oicp. the level of funding will be determined by the r&d review committee of the ocs.   

how to apply

ciirdf and the ocs will conduct parallel application processes. ontario and israel companies are required to submit a joint application directly to ciirdf. israeli applicants are further required to apply directly to the ocs.

ontario universities can participate, although there would need to be an ontario company involved as the project lead. the lead partner in israel would also have to be a company.

ontario’s developmental services research grant fund – 2015 call for proposals

how to apply: 

i am writing to announce the launch of the 2015 developmental services research grant competition, supported by the ministry of community and social services of the government of ontario. 

the developmental services (ds) research grant fund was created in 2012 to support research and innovative initiatives for the ds sector.  a competitive call for proposals was used to select six projects for funding. 

this is the second call for research proposals.  the ministry is interested in obtaining research proposals on three particular topic areas:

·         funding approaches and practices

·         service models for complex needs clients

·         employment

more detail about the topic areas is provided in the attached documents.

the fund will provide a maximum of $400,000 across all funded projects each of two years to support research in priority areas. projects may be either short-term projects that are less than one year in duration or larger projects that have a duration of up to two years. projects are eligible for varying amounts of funding based on the complexity of the project, the number of research questions identified, the duration of the project and the type of research.

biomedical research grants

how to apply: 

biomedical research grants provide financial support to medical researchers to assist in defraying the operating costs of research, which may include the purchase of materials, supplies and equipment and the payment of laboratory assistants.

grants are available for one, two or three years, commencing july 1, for up to $50,000 per year. the research must be carried out in canada.

there are significant changes to the kfoc biomedical research competition.

  1. the application deadline will change from october 15th to a two stage process.

    - a mandatory registration phase with a deadline of september 1st, 2015

    - a full application phase with a deadline of october 1st, 2015.

  2. the page limit will be reduced to a maximum of 10 pages (including figures and graphs).

meopar is calling on researchers across canada to submit a proposal for our fourth call for research proposals.  irving shipbuilding is generously contributing $1 million of this $1.5 million call, which will fund a number of multi-year projects that align with meopar’s overall goal of improving canada’s ability to observe, predict, and respond to marine hazards.

we encourage project proposals to develop and/or apply new technologies or approaches to advance environmental observation, safe operations and/or emergency response on canada’s coasts. proposals are required to have practical goals with clear evidence of end-user involvement in the identification of the research topic to be addressed and the formulation, support and conduct of the research itself.

projects must be multi-disciplinary and align with our overall vision/goals as a network of centres of excellence, which are outlined in our strategic plan.  please see our open call for details:
