idea development award

the erp idea development award (ida) mechanism is being offered for the first time in fy15.

the intent of the erp ida is to solicit research to understand the magnitude and underlying mechanisms of pte, especially in service members and veterans while benefitting the civilian community. to this end, the erp has identified research focus areas for fy15 by which the intent of this mechanism can be facilitated (see section i.b., fy15 erp focus areas). the erp ida award offers two levels of funding. level i is intended to support investigator-initiated research that may be high-risk and/or high-gain. level ii is intended to support advanced studies that may be multidisciplinary in nature, and/or have multiple collaborators. applications to either level i or ii should provide relevant preliminary data to support the application’s research hypothesis (or hypotheses). it is the responsibility of the principal investigator (pi) to select the funding level most appropriate to the proposed research.

fy15 peer reviewed alzheimer's research program (prarp)

how to apply:

program description

applications to the fiscal year 2015 (fy15) peer reviewed alzheimer’s research program (prarp) are being solicited for the defense health agency, research, development, and acquisition (dha rda) directorate, by the u.s. army medical research acquisition activity (usamraa). as directed by the office of the assistant secretary of defense for health affairs, the dha rda directorate manages and executes the defense health program (dhp) research, development, test, and evaluation (rdt&e) appropriation. the executing agent for this program announcement/funding opportunity is the congressionally directed medical research programs (cdmrp).

the prarp (formerly the militarily relevant peer reviewed alzheimer’s disease research program) was initiated in 2011 to address the long-term consequences of traumatic brain injury (tbi) as they pertain to alzheimer’s disease (ad). military personnel and other individuals who suffer from tbi face an increased risk for developing several long-term health problems. these conditions include alzheimer’s-like dementia, aggression, memory loss, depression, and symptoms similar to those of other neurological diseases. the prarp is devoted to (1) understanding the association between tbi and ad; and (2) reducing the burden on affected individuals and caregivers, especially in the military and veteran communities. support for these objectives is anticipated to be delivered by the research community through a combination of mechanistic and preclinical studies.

funding mechanisms

  • convergence science research award (csra)
  • quality of life research award (qual)
  • military risk factors research award (mrfa)

knowledge to action grants

how to apply:

this knowledge to action grant has been created to encourage ideas that will close the gap between what is known from research and what is done with that knowledge. these grants are intended to provide funding for research projects that build on existing cancer research findings and aim to improve outcomes and experiences through knowledge translation (kt) for people and populations at risk, patients, their families and communities across the cancer trajectory e.g., to assist knowledge users (researchers, practitioners, policy makers, ccs program delivery staff and/or volunteers) in their awareness of knowledge or innovations and facilitating their use in health or healthcare system improvement. the grant should incorporate the principles of knowledge translation including knowledge synthesis, dissemination, exchange and/or ethically sound application of knowledge to improve health and the health system.

note that the focus of applications should be on either: the translation of current, existing knowledge and not the creation of new knowledge, from foundational, discovery research, or the development of new, innovative approaches, models, methodologies, measurement tools, etc., for knowledge translation as outlined below.
