agri-based industrial bioproducts r&d challenge

how to apply:

ontario centres of excellence (oce), the agricultural adaptation council (aac) and the natural sciences and engineering research council of canada (nserc) are partnering to support collaborative research and development projects through oce’s voucher for industry association r&d challenge program.

the agri-based industrial bioproducts (abib) r&d challenge is a $3-million program that supports ontario’s developing industrial bioproducts sector. the program encourages for-profit businesses with innovative industrial bioproduct ideas (any commercial product derived from agricultural sources) to collaborate with academic research institutions to foster innovation and drive commercialization. it is intended to provide significant economic benefits to ontario (jobs, revenues etc.) by supporting the development of the next generation of agri-based industrial bioproducts.

interested researchers from ontario academic institutions are invited to submit expressions of interest (eois), in partnership with for-profit businesses, for the development of collaborative research projects for this abib r&d challenge.

narsad independent investigator grants

how to apply:

the brain & behavior research foundation is the largest non-government, donor-supported organization that distributes funds for brain and behavior disorder research. the brain & behavior research foundation narsad independent investigator grant offers up to $50,000 a year for two (2) years and is intended for scientists at the associate professor level (or equivalent) with national competitive supports as a principal investigator (p.i.). please note that an assistant professor who is a principal investigator (p.i.) on a nih r01 grant is now eligible for the independent investigator grant.

the independent investigator grant stands between the young and distinguished investigator grants. the young investigator is intended to extend initial research training, or support scientists at the assistant professor rank. the distinguished investigator supports senior investigators (full professor or equivalent) pursuing innovative, new directions. strict adherence to eligibility guidelines for the independent investigator will apply to prevent overlap between the programs, and to ensure that a reasonable proportion of applications judged to be excellent can be funded.

the program is intended to facilitate innovative research opportunities and supports basic, as well as translational and/or clinical investigators, however, research must be relevant to understanding, treatment and prevention of serious psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, or early onset brain and behavior disorders.

connections grants

how to apply:

connection grants support events and outreach activities geared toward short-term, targeted knowledge mobilization initiatives. these events and activities represent opportunities to exchange knowledge and to engage on research issues of value to those participating. events and outreach activities funded by a connection grant may often serve as a first step toward more comprehensive and longer-term projects potentially eligible for funding through other sshrc funding opportunities.

connection grants proposals are expected to meet the objectives of the connection program.

connection grants support workshops, colloquiums, conferences, forums, summer institutes or other events or outreach activities that facilitate:

  • disciplinary and/or interdisciplinary exchanges in the humanities and social sciences;
  • scholarly exchanges between those working in the social sciences and humanities and those working in other research fields;
  • intersectoral exchanges between academic researchers in the humanities and social sciences and researchers and practitioners from the public, private and/or not-for-profit sectors; and/or
  • international research collaboration and scholarly exchanges between researchers, 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 and non-academic partners from other countries.

knowledge synthesis grants: emerging technologies

how to apply:

technology is crucial, but innovation itself is a human endeavour. as such, social sciences and humanities research is key to content development, business planning and marketing, training and governance. dynamic new technologies are also enabling, accelerating and influencing deep conceptual changes in the research environment, the economy, industry and society.

emerging technologies is one of six future challenge areas identified through sshrc’s imagining canada’s future initiative. these complex issues were identified following an extensive foresight exercise, and reflect key challenges that canada is likely to face in an evolving global context over the coming decades, and to which the social sciences and humanities research community can contribute its knowledge, talent and expertise.

sshrc is, therefore, launching a knowledge synthesis grants funding opportunity for the future challenge area “how can emerging technologies be leveraged to benefit canadians?”

while acknowledging the value of international and comparative scholarship in the social sciences and humanities on emerging and disruptive technologies, this funding opportunity is particularly focused on uncovering the particularities of the canadian “technoscape.”

in support of the objectives noted below, these grants will foster a deeper understanding of the state of knowledge regarding the human dimensions involved in emerging technologies. the resulting syntheses will also help identify roles that the academic, public, private and not-for-profit sectors may play in seizing future opportunities and mitigating risks related to these technologies. this knowledge will pave the way for developing robust policies, strategies, practices and tools for a sustainable, equitable and prosperous future for canada and the world.
