killam research fellowships

eligibility:

applications must be submitted by individuals, and not by their institutions (however, applicants must obtain their approval).

killam research fellowships are intended as release time from employment for established scholars who have demonstrated outstanding research ability and who have published the results of their research in substantial publications in their field. typically, a fellowship recipient is a full professor in a canadian university with significant teaching and/or administrative responsibilities. researchers who are employed in settings such as a hospital or a scientific institute etc. may qualify if they demonstrate outstanding ability and their proposed project meets generally accepted standards of scholarly merit.

how to apply:

every year the killam program offers awards to outstanding canadian scholars working in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, health sciences and engineering. these awards are among canada’s most distinguished research awards. they are made possible through the killam trusts by a bequest of mrs. dorothy j. killam, and a gift she made before her death in 1965. recipients are chosen by a committee of 15 eminent canadian scholars appointed by the canada council.

a fellowship from this program provides two full years of release time, beginning no later than 1 january following notification of the fellowship (you may not request less than the full two-year fellowship period). the support for the second year depends on approval of your interim report.

killam research fellowships are valued at $70,000 per year. the funds assist your institution to cover the costs of replacing you (while still paying your regular salary and benefits) during the two-year fellowship period.

connection grants

how to apply:

connection grants support events and outreach activities geared toward short-term, targeted knowledge mobilization initiatives. these events and activities represent opportunities to exchange knowledge and to engage on research issues of value to those participating. events and outreach activities funded by a connection grant may often serve as a first step toward more comprehensive and longer-term projects potentially eligible for funding through other sshrc funding opportunities.

connection grants proposals are expected to meet the objectives of the connection program.

connection grants support workshops, colloquiums, conferences, forums, summer institutes or other events or outreach activities that facilitate:
