this panel explores how equity, diversity, and inclusion (edi) emerges organically within intersectional community organizations led by 2slgbtq+, racialized, gendered, and/or other historically marginalized groups. drawing on research conducted with a diverse range of community organizations, the speakers will examine how these groups navigate edi principles in ways that are context-specific, culturally responsive, and central to their organizational structures and everyday interactions. through case studies and critical reflections, the discussion will highlight the limitations of top-down institutional approaches to edi and explore how community-led models foster more meaningful, inclusive, and ethical engagement. panelists will also consider the challenges these organizations face in sustaining their approaches while negotiating external pressures, resource constraints, and broader systemic barriers. by centering the knowledge and strategies developed within these communities, this session aims to contribute to a more nuanced and transformative understanding of edi in practice.
