course description: in the course representing disability, 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 will be introduced to the field of critical disability studies and its scholarly connection to intersectional feminist research. as an introduction to the field, 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 will be given the language to discuss disability (in all of its complex embodiments) and critically analyze the ways in which disability has been represented and/or misrepresented in popular media, art and visual culture, advertisement, medicine, museums, fashion, and politics. through a number of different artistic and visual culture examples, we will discuss historical and contemporary representations of disability – both visible and invisible. we will look at activist movements that address inequality as it relates to physical, cognitive, neuro, and mental diversity, as well as socio-economic factors and other social determinates of access and health. a variety of representational forms will be discussed, such as film, sculpture, painting, performance, memoir, photography, and 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 will be given the opportunity to produce a small scale creative activist project. from this course, 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 will acquire a larger understanding of critical disability studies as an academic field and will be given the tools to actively and creatively approach social justice activism in their own lives.

no background or knowledge in disability studies required, this course is open to all types of online learners!

in "global lgbtqi2s rights," 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 will explore lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and two-spirit human rights in contemporary canada and around the world.

crossing the global north/south divide, our queer political journey will take us to canada, argentina, south africa, belgium, india, the netherlands, poland, jamaica, indonesia, and beyond! 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 will also learn about differences in queer rights within canada, documenting disparities from province to province and across other geographical divisions, diasporas, and intersecting social identities. in what ways do queer rights signal something significant about citizenship and belonging in the nation? what  is the role of the state versus social movements in achieving queer rights and inclusion in particular countries? what role do international institutions and agreements play? how can we explain similarities and differences between nation-states when it comes to equality for lgbtqi2s people? how are "queer rights" much broader and deeper than simply the  legalization of same-sex marriage and other legal structures and changes (which we will consider in detail but also move beyond)? finally, how do stereotypes and problematic ideologies about lgbtqi2s rights in different countries (for example, the construct of a "homophobic nation") operate to advance other oppressions and to obscure much more complicated legal and social realities and histories of queer inclusion, oppression, and activism? these are just some of the questions we will consider as we document and deconstruct a queer new world!

dr. kyle jackson is the instructor of this course. he has taught approximately 33 classes at the university level in women’s, gender, and sexuality studies and political science.

due to the covid 19 pandemic and the on-going concerns around health and safety in gatherings, we have decided to change the way that feminisms at the lakehead is traditionally run. in times of great change, it only makes sense that we change as well!

we are excited to present this year’s feminisms at the lakehead: continuous conference; an on-going set of speakers and presentations on a variety of feminist research topics, art, and contemporary issues. in keeping with past feminisms conferences, we invite 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 , faculty, staff and community members to join in - as presenters, or in the audience! we encourage you to respond to our call for presenters (cfp) by following the link here.

the purpose of the continuous conference is to provide all the professional and learning opportunities of a traditional conference, while allowing presenters to participate with flexibility, and with as little risk as possible. you can choose when, and how, you present! this could include: zoom presentations, webinars, panel discussions, moderated or facilitated discussions, workshops and more. we can provide technical support and guidance to ensure a smooth delivery.

as the pandemic and its impacts are constantly changing, so too will the conference topics. each month will include a different theme or perspective for topics. each presentation will be advertised as part of the feminisms continuous conference, free, accessible and open to the public.

we encourage you to follow the gender equity centre on instagram & facebook to keep up to date on submission deadlines, topics of discussion, and other updates regarding feminisms. if you have any questions, please contact us: gec@lusu.ca and put “feminisms” as the subject.

thank you for your time and consideration,
