mohit’s talk is a call for awareness, activism, and solidarity. they will present their ongoing doctoral studies on the experiences of queer international 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 in small canadian cities, while also sharing some of their personal experiences as a queer international student in thunder bay, navigating intersecting identities such as being a person of color. queer 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 often face distinct challenges at the intersections of identity, culture, and belonging, especially in places that may lack strong lgbtq+ communities or resources. in their talk, mohit will discuss how these experiences shape queer 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 ’ sense of identity, well-being, and community involvement, drawing from their recently published article, transglobal queer identities, and other insights from their ongoing doctoral work.

erika puiras will present her doctoral research on experiences of stigma and self-stigma in childfree women. stigma toward women who make the conscious choice to not have children (i.e., being childfree) is abundant; this stigma can come from friends, family, employers, and even from healthcare providers. in her presentation, erika will discuss how these experiences of stigma may be associated with various health and mental health outcomes, including the potential for self-stigma to develop.

dr. katrina younes will explore the pressing human rights concerns surrounding deepfakes and facial recognition technology (frt). this discussion focuses on how these technologies disproportionately affect marginalized groups, particularly women, and the implications for/of human rights law. the talk explains some of the underlying biases in ai systems and the urgent need for equitable digital policies at the international level. come and engage with pressing issues shaping our digital future!

mehmet yavuz’s (ph.d. abd) research interests include divided / post-peace-accord societies, violence, peacebuilding, social justice, 2slgbtqia+, queer theory, media and peacebuilding, social movements, conflict transformation, cyprus, bosnia & herzegovina, northern ireland, and turkey. mehmet has published numerous articles in the following journals: peace and conflict studies, journal for justice and peace, journal of ethnic studies, interdisciplinary justice research, and canadian journal of criminology and criminal justice. his doctoral research investigates queer people’s perceptions and experiences of social justice and peacebuilding in bosnia and herzegovina.
