impromptus & fantasies

oni buchanan will be presenting her impromptus & fantasies program, exploring two musical forms with their roots in the art of improvisation. the works, though bound by their extemporaneous and ingenious form-bending styles, run the gamut of emotional expression, from whimsical and capricious to profoundly grave, urgently imploring, boisterous, peacefully contented, and transcendentally sublime. they trace the delights and obsessions of each composer, creating the illusion of unpremeditated inspiration captured in the moment.

piano works to be performed on the impromptus & fantasies program include:

bach, chromatic fantasy and fugue in d minor, bwv 903

schubert, impromptu in c minor, op. 90, no. 1
impromptu in f minor, op. 142, no. 4

chopin, fantasie-impromptu no. 4 in c# minor, op. 66

schumann, fantasiestücke, op. 12
