hailing from canada’s east and west coasts, guitarist john oliver and violinist lynn kuo combine to form canada’s newest violin/guitar duo, duo vita. enthusiastically bringing life to the creations of great composers, duo vita challenges the violin/guitar repertoire through the exploration of contemporary sounds, new composers, and the combination of the past and present with the new

violinist lynn kuo performs as recitalist, chamber
musician, and soloist in north america and europe and has
performed as guest soloist with the quebec symphony orchestra,
newfoundland symphony orchestra, orpheus chamber orchestra of bulgaria, canadian sinfonietta, and the brandon chamber
players. kuo has given numerous world premieres of compositions
written and dedicated to her. she has toured canada, and europe
both as soloist and as head of the les amis ensemble. future
projects include a third les amis ensemble tour of europe in 2009 during which kuo and the les amis ensemble will present contemporary canadian music at the renowned music biennale
zagreb festival in croatia. john oliver, guitarist and composer, is an associate
composer of the canadian music centre and is co-director of earsay
productions. as composer/performer, oliver has written and
performed electroacoustic music for multiple loudspeaker
installations, either controlling/performing the sounds from the stage
with guitars with live electronics (synthesizers & computer), or
performing at the mixing console. he has performed in north
america as soloist at several festivals, and at the invitation of the
canadian broadcasting corporation, new music concerts, standing
wave ensemble, stanford university and in 2005 was invited to
present a â€"portrait concert†of his music at the akousma2 festival
in montreal. his music has been commissioned for performance by
the likes of the canadian opera company, vancouver symphony
orchestra, judith forst, russell braun, st. lawrence string quartet
and others, and is recorded on cbc records, empreintes
digitales, earsay, sne, and zadiscs.
