originally from saskatoon, carissa klopoushak is currently pursuing a doctorate in violin performance at mcgill university's schulich school of music, a student of jonathan crow.  she is a member of the schulich string quartet.

winner of the 32nd annual eckhardt-grammatte national music competition for the performance of canadian music, carissa was also awarded the city of brandon prize for the best performance of the commissioned work, chaccone by t. patrick carrabré.

carissa earned her b.mus at the university of saskatchewan studying with philip kashap.  in her fourth year, carissa won the position of principal second violin with the saskatoon symphony orchestra, a position she held for three years.

carissa performs frequently with the national arts centre orchestra, and was recently featured in recital at the ottawa international chamber music festival.  she has participated in several music festivals throughout canada, including banff, orford, le domaine forget, and scotia festival of music.  she is an artistic director of the ritornello chamber music festival in saskatoon.

 

 

acclaimed for the brilliance and sensitivity of his playing, as well as for his ability to connect with audiences, philip chiu has quickly established his reputation as a truly versatile artist.

 

second prize winner of the 2007 bosendorfer national piano competition, philip has appeared as a soloist throughout canada, most recently at the orford arts centre and for the lindsay concert foundation.  also a highly sought-after collaborative pianist, this past season included over 75 recitals throughout montreal, including prize-winning performances for numerous national and international competitions.  an avid chamber musician, philip recently toured central and eastern canada with duo pianist janelle fung under the auspices of jeunesses musicales canada (jmc).  the upcoming season will include further appearances with ms. fung, a jmc tour with violinist andrew wan, and the 2009 eckhardt-gramatté national winner's tour with violinist carissa klopoushak.

 
philip is currently based in montreal, studying with marc durand and jimmy briere at l'université de montreal.  past teachers include jenny regehr, peter longworth, and susan steele.

dimitris kotronakis was born in heraklion, creta (greece) in 1973.  he begun studies in classical guitar at the age of seven, and graduated from the international conservatory of athens with a guitar diploma in 1992.  he attended post-graduate studies in classical guitar at the athens conservatory, graduating again in 1996. he also undertook advanced theoretical and musicological studies that led to a degree in musicology from the university of athens in 1996. currently he is a phd candidate at the university of athens, with his thesis having as its subject: greek guitar composers in the twentieth-century
 

he is a multiple prize winner in many guitar competitions in greece, spain and romania. he has recorded two cds with music by nikos mamagakis, namely new excursion for solo guitar and spring symphony for guitar and voice, based on poetry by yannis ritsos.  as lead guitarist of the guitar quintet epsilon, he has recorded a cd titled angel guitars featuring the music of christos nicolopoulos, arranged for five guitars by epsilon.  his fourth cd, titled echomythia, was recently released in the usa by the clearnote publications (www.clearnote.net).  this disk contains pieces of the modern guitar repertory that has been influenced by jazz, latin and brazilian music.  

 
he has performed in numerous solo guitar recitals in greece and worldwide.  he has also performed as soloist with the philharmonic orchestra of craiova (romania), the orchestra of colours (greece) and the nicolaos mantzaros orchestra (greece).  he teaches classical guitar in the music school of alimos-athens, the panormonio conservatory of athens and the international conservatory of athens.

dr. pinch is a world-renowned scholar from cornell university, and is a top name in both the fields of sociology and science and technology studies. professor pinch has published over ten books, many critically acclaimed and in top-rated university presses, such as harvard university press, cambridge university press, university of chicago press, and mit press.
