research interests:
dr. rick holmes taught and did research in the area of twentieth- and twenty-first century british literature, with special emphasis on contemporary fiction and narrative theory. he has a secondary interest in victorian literature. he published two books: the historical imagination: postmodernism and the treatment of the past in contemporary british fiction (1997) and julian barnes (2009). he also published numerous articles and book chapters on novels and stories by julian barnes, john fowles, john barth, a. s. byatt, graham swift, e. m. forster, angus wilson, david lodge, salmon rushdie, hanif kureishi, kingsley amis, martin amis, and kazuo ishiguro. his most recent project was a study of british fiction of the 1980s.
