the national representational organization protecting and advancing the rights and interests of inuit in canada. they work to improve the health and well being of inuit.
itk represents the rights and interests of inuit at the national level through a democratic governance structure that represents all inuit regions.the comprehensive land claim agreements that have been settled in inuit nunangat form a core component of our organization’s mandate. these land claims have the status of protected treaties undersection 35 of the constitution act, 1982, and we remain committed to fully implementing them in partnership with the crown. itk advocates for policies, programs, and services to address the social, cultural, political, and environmental issues facing our people.

qikiqtani inuit association (qia) advances the rights and benefits of qikiqtani inuit through protecting and promoting their social, political, economic and cultural interests; while safeguarding the land, waters and resources that sustain their communities.

pauktuutit is the national non-profit organization representing all inuit women in canada. its mandate is to foster a greater awareness of the needs of inuit women, and to encourage their participation in community, regional and national concerns in relation to social, cultural and economic development.

founded in 1977 by the late eben hopson of barrow, alaska, the inuit circumpolar council (icc) has flourished and grown into a major international non-government organization representing approximately 180,000 inuit of alaska, canada, greenland, and chukotka (russia).

"inuit have lived in canada's north since time immemorial. the canadian government's administration of inuit affairs, however, has been generally shorter and is less well understood than the federal government's relations with first nations and métis. we hope to correct some of this knowledge imbalance by providing an overview of the federal government's inuit policy and program development from first contact to 2006."
