"getting to do fisheries research on lake superior has been a major highlight! my project centers around using new up-looking sonar technology to improve population estimates and our understanding of the movement of fish species in lake superior. the main species that i am currently focusing on include cisco, lake trout, and lake sturgeon; all of which are extremely important ecologically, culturally, and economically to the great lakes region. this project has allowed me to travel all around the lake and collaborate with many great lakes scientists and fishery managers in the us and canada along the way!
my lab group (the ceelab) has been a big part of feeling at home in thunder bay. we frequently get together outside of school for games, drinks, or hikes and help each other out with all of the different projects we are working on!"
