elder, parents/caregivers & youth gathering

the office of aboriginal initiatives in conjunction with aboriginal cultural & support services at 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 is hosting an elders, parents/caregivers &youth gathering on thursday, september 17th, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  the event will be held in the faculty lounge.

世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 are asked to bring their parents or caregivers to 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 for a campus tour and an opportunity to meet some of our elders.  we are providing this opportunity as a means to create intergenerational connections around the theme of reconciliation.

parents/caregivers will have the chance to tour 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 and get a feel for student life on-campus.  after the tour, welcome and introductions will be made and one of our elders will share an opening prayer.  refreshments will be available, followed by a presentation by mike scott.  mike scott, originally from sturgeon lake first nation, grew up with parents who were dealing with the effects of residential school.  as a result, they turned to alcohol and drugs to cover their pain and scott grew up in a home of addiction.  scott has transformed his story of survival, of overcoming addiction and street life, into a viral online campaign and a motivational speaker business aimed at helping youth.

by renewing conversations between elders, youth, and parents/caregivers, we hope this event will lead to outcomes that will highlight and celebrate who we are as the aboriginal community of thunder bay and showcase our resiliency.  we hope you will be an enthusiastic participant in this exchange.
