duties

• serves as an active first-responder and crisis manager on behalf of both the principal and/or associate vice president administration (avp) relative to security, residence, external affairs or community engagement related issues
• serves as the orillia campus’s primary complaints officer maintaining all legal correspondence and relevant documentation regarding complaints of any kind received by either the office of the principal or avp.
• identifies, promotes and actively encourages conference operations through external outreach and close collaboration with the avp especially in terms of food and conference services
• assists in the editing, preparation and fact-checking of all submissions, reports and correspondence both from and into the office of the principal
• effective document management and maintenance especially on files involving highly sensitive materials like financial documents, student discipline reports or hr related matters
• working with campus stakeholders to ensure a welcoming, accommodating image to visitors of the principal's office and central administrative suite
• oversees the principal's budget and maintains charges associated with it while approving expenditures of up to $5,000.
• coordinates the principal's travel arrangements and associated linkages to internal/external stakeholders. completes and submits the principal's expense forms in accordance with official university travel/expense policies and reconciles the principal's travel and other expenses as necessary

qualifications

• post-secondary education in office administration or related field
• 5-7 years of senior administrative experience working within the postsecondary education sector or a similar environment

• excellent computer skills with high competency in all ms office suite products

the senate-approved epid@work research institute is the injury and disability research institute for northwestern ontario. established in 2018, the mandate of epid@work is to bring people together to reduce work-related injury and disability through collaborative applied research and provision of education to enhance knowledge related to injury and disability. the institute recently became a partner with the ministry of labour, training, and skills development and holds a seat at the ministry’s prevention research partner’s table. information generated from our research informs practice and policies aiming to improve health and social outcomes in northwestern ontario and beyond.

indigenous youth mental health

summary of position

the postdoctoral fellow will be involved in an exciting research program funded by the canadian institutes of health research (cihr) aimed at enhancing mental health and wellness among indigenous young people, that builds on the work of the access open minds indigenous council. the research program has various objectives and aligned activities such as identifying and sharing wise practices; identifying, developing and testing culturally and contextually relevant interventions, and measures; understanding views of indigenous youths, service providers, and decision-makers on topics related to youth mental health and mental health services and developing culturally and contextually relevant outcomes.

this program is supported by indigenous-led services and organizations; elders; indigenous youth, scholars from various disciplines, knowledge users, leaders and community members, along with support from allied non-indigenous decision-makers, health researchers/clinicians and other iys leads from across canada.

the postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to work closely with all these partners; pursue and grow as a researcher in community-engaged, interdisciplinary indigenous youth mental health services research; and strengthen their knowledge translation and communication skills.

• routine chemical analysis of samples that includes accurate and precise preparation and analysis of samples
• culturing daphnia magna and rainbow trout
• euthanizing fish following sops
• receiving and logging in samples
• recording all sample information and resulting data from analytical run
• ensuring that analytical run performance is within system suitability specs, performing basic maintenance and calibration on instruments
• diligently recognizing, recording and communicating outside quality control limits results, non-conformities and other anomalies

duties

• advise on the development and implementation of safe sport policies including but not limited to the canadian centre for ethics in sport (cces), sexual violence, anti-racism/oppression, equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization

• hire, mentor, supervise, and direct all employees in orillia athletics & recreation including: all coaching staff (approximately 12), athletic therapists, and student employees.
• establish strong hiring, screening, and on boarding processes and material for all employees and ensure materials align with safe sport procedures.
• actively promote intramural programs, teams, and events including event scheduling, booking of spaces and locations for events to occur and enabling high-levels of student participation
• cultivate and establish close relationships with local and regional athletics facilities and centres in efforts to promote cross-developmental programs, services and supports.
• attend ocaa meetings including the annual general meeting, and sport-specific meetings.

qualifications

• undergraduate degree in a related field required (i.e. recreation, education, sport information,

business)

• 3 to 5 years of experience working in a post-secondary setting required
• minimum of 3 years of practical experience with duties/responsibilities/accountabilities list above generally acquired through working in a high performance sport or recreation or sport facility environment
• proven organizational, leadership, and management skills
• proven success in delivering results within a sport or post-secondary setting
• experience coordinating sporting events and game day logistics preferably in an intercollegiate or inter-university setting

the epid@work research institute is seeking a qualified candidate to conduct quantitative research and be involved with associated projects.  they will draft reb applications and perform data collection and processing to quantitative data analysis, present findings and draft research papers. the quantitative research assistant will conduct interviews and processed the data found by managing it for analysis and data curation. they will conduct statistical analyses of various types using primarily stata statistical software, though ssps will also be available.
