onsite at the 2018 report to the community

the crsd team will be onsite at the university’s 2018 report to the community on november 28th. invited guests will have the opportunity to try out the centre’s portable simulator, and learn more about the team’s current research.

we are proud to announce another big win at this year's auto21 conference held in ottawa. erica sawula earned a fourth place finish for her project entitled "a randomized trial of a comprehensive training process to enhance safe driving in older adults”.  her poster was rated best in theme by a panel of experts and recognized as a first round winner. erica's success was rewarded with a $1500 prize! great job!

february 23, 2016

after nearly seven years, the crsd has completed data collection for the candrive study. on february 23rd, candrive participants, their friends and family, as well as crsd members gathered to celebrate. guests were treated to lunch and a presentation highlighting the study's findings to date and future directions. thank you to all of the dedicated candrive participants who made this study possible!

transportation safety is a dynamic and ever-changing interplay between vehicle (e.g., type, condition, equipment, weight, loading), environment (e.g., organizational culture, road conditions, weather) and driver. together, the crsd and the school of outdoor recreation, parks and tourism at 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 are training their drivers through the “safer-systems” approach. this initiative will help drivers to mitigate hazards and identify protective factors necessary for safer participant transportation.

one of our accomplished crsd members, sacha dubois gave a fascinating talk at the northern ontario school of medicine as part of the human sciences seminar series. the talk summarized years of research utilizing the fatality analysis reporting system. the talk was titled: "the impact of alcohol, cannabis, benzodiazepines and opioid analgesics on fatal crash responsibility". you can view the talk here.

february, 2015

erica sawula represented the crsd well this year at lakehead's three-minute thesis (3mt) competition. her presentation was titled: ""on the road again: improving safe driving in seniors" and was recognized as the best 3mt at the university. erica won the opportunity to travel to london, ontario to represent lakehead at the provincial competition, held at western university.

congratulations to the crsd's hillary maxwell, nadia, mullen, bruce weaver, nathan smith, carrie gibbons, and paula reguly for earning a 2nd place finish, out of 70 participants, in the poster competition at the annual auto21 conference held may 22-23, 2013, toronto, ontario.

the award-winning poster, rated by a panel of industry experts, contained research findings from a study entitled: 'acceptability of 1-screen and 3-screen simulators for assessing driving capacity.' the award is accompanied by a $3,500 prize.

september 10, 2012

nathan smith, a master of public health student, was awarded the st. joseph's care group award in applied health research. the duration of the award is one year and the value is $13,000. his thesis is entitled evaluation of screening tools to identify at-risk drivers.

loretta patterson, a doctoral candidate in clinical psychology, was awarded a canadian institutes of health research (cihr) doctoral research award - priority announcement: disability prevention (auto collision or manufacturing). the duration of the award is two years and the total value is $35,000. her dissertation is entitled the influence of major depressive disorder and antidepressant medications on driving performance.

dr. julie riendeau and loretta patterson won an honourable mention and a $1,000 prize in the student poster competition held during the auto21 2012 conference in montreal. these researchers are working with lakehead’s canada research chair in aging & health, dr. michel bedard, to enhance driving skills among mature drivers.
