the time capsule was laid in poured concrete during the construction of the finnish labour temple at a ceremony on october 26, 1909. it was undisturbed until the fire on december 22, 2021. the capsule, contained of a small copper box, was recovered during demolition on march 2, 2022, and opened in a public event on april 26, 2022. all contents were transferred to the archives immediately after.
scope and content
this time capsule reflects the intentions of the builders of the labour temple at the start of construction. it demonstrates an awareness of posterity and their hopes for the cultural significance of the building. the documents clearly reflect the socialist beliefs of the builders.
