join the shine program!

the shine program is a six-week exercise program tailored for women by women, developed in partnership with lakehead athletics. participants will be encouraged to engage in exercise at the campus gym three times a week for 30 minutes, as informed by their private facility tour and exercise guide/handout.

participants will be randomly assigned to either a control or intervention condition, with intervention participants being paired with a peer mentor (senior student with exercise expertise and trained in a two-hour workshop on motivational interviewing) who will join them in one weekly exercise session and virtual communication between sessions.

participants will be asked to engage in data collection at weeks one, three, and six, for which they will be compensated $20 for each period completed.

eligibility:

  • identify as a woman
  • full-time undergraduate student at lakehead
  • want to become more active
