this year, participants will have the opportunity to visit lakehead's virtual reality facility, where they will don 3-d glasses and have the experience of travelling through a bloodstream, flying an airplane, and other adventures. the girls will also design and create an led flasher, and make use of lakehead's bridge design software, which will allow them to test the strength and integrity of their bridge design.

(october 9, 2008 - thunder bay, on) this fall, 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 are getting out of the classroom and into the heavens. for the first time, the department of physics will help 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 develop hands-on skills in observational astronomy. the course, taught by lakehead engineering professor dr. lionel catalan, and randy mcallister, past president of the thunder bay centre of the royal astronomical society of canada and owner/operator of the thunder bay observatory, provides 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 a minimum of four night sessions at the thunder bay astronomical observatory, and 36 hours of lectures and tutorials in a computer lab.

世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 are trained in the operation of research-grade telescopes and astronomical cameras, as well as specialized software, and the analysis of astronomical data. they are taught telescope optics, imaging techniques, astronomical photometry to measure the light of stars, and astrometry to determine the orbit of asteroids. divided into groups, 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 carry out observational projects on variable stars, exoplanets, asteroids, and star-forming regions in distant galaxies. so far, about 20 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 have signed up for the course, which requires a background in physics.

currently, dr. catalan is collaborating with an international team of researchers to observe high-mass x-ray binary stars; new data obtained from the student projects will be made available to researchers around the world.

dr. reznik has been awarded an nserc tier ii crc in the physics of molecular imaging valued at $100,000 per year, for five years. dr. pyle has also been awarded a five-year nserc tier ii crc in environmental biotechnology and ecotoxicology valued at $100,000 per year.

dr. reznik's research will make use of unique developments in photo-detection, to develop an advanced solid-state technology for positron emission tomography (pet) imaging. this technology will facilitate early diagnosis of cancer, as well as efficient monitoring of treatment progress of the disease. as early detection of cancer leads to a very high cure rate, this research promises to deliver important and substantial public health benefits. dr. reznik has also been appointed as a scientist with thunder bay regional research institute (tbrri) as part of the research and innovation partnership between lakehead and tbrri.

dr. pyle's research revolves around the ways that human activities may interfere with chemical communication systems used by aquatic animals in their environment. powerful, dissolved, info-chemicals in the aquatic environment are used by animals to convey important information related to vital life processes, such as the location of food or predators, genetic quality and reproductive status of potential mates, and the location of migratory routes. this research focuses on the role of chemical communication in maintaining aquatic ecosystem integrity, and the effects of metals on biological processes from molecular through to the ecosystem level of organization.

(september 25, 2008 -- thunder bay, on) businessman paul weber hopes to match the stunning success of his roadside eatery, webers restaurants, with his newest project leading the 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 orillia campus $20-million capital campaign. weber's hugely popular drive-in restaurants just north of the gta on highway 11, which had become an ontario landmark and cultural icon, were sold in 2004. but he is not one to rest on his laurels. when he found out about 阿根廷vs墨西哥竞猜 orillia campus and the plan to build it "green," he came forward to offer to head the campaign to raise $20-million to build the permanent campus.
