cancelled - the department of history and the faculty of social sciences and humanities welcome the public to attend “news from the giant,” a presentation on the use of locally produced archival film footage to tell stories of the lakehead.

presenters michel beaulieu, nathan hatton, kelly saxberg, and ron harpelle will discuss public history and take participants back to the early days of local television news at the lakehead. the event includes the launch of “news from the giant,” a series of short newsreels made with nightly news footage from the late 50s and early 60s.

find out more about what was going on back then and how this archival footage will soon be made available to researchers and the public. this event is both in-person and online. seating in paci may be restricted due to evolving covid-19 protocols, but we will provide updates as necessary to ensure a safe environment.

those wishing to attend virtually are asked to visit http://www.finnishlabourtemple.com where a link to a livestream of the event will be available. doors open at 7 pm.
