the purpose of this tour is to provide a forum for researchers, graduate 世界杯2022赛程表淘汰赛 , industry and government partners to discuss project sampling protocols. the tour route will take us 120 km north of thunder bay on hwy. 527, and then 33 km northwest on hwy. 811.

the first 15 km on hwy. 527 are mainly on private land. the next 35 km are through resolute spruce forest. we may not be able to visit all the proposed stops. whether or not we visit a particular stop will depend on the prevailing weather and discussion time as we progress along the route. there is a lot of driving, particularly between the 2 study areas. bag lunches will be provided.

the department of geology presents a seminar by tenure track candidate, dr. danielle huminicki, entitled "effect of coatings on mineral reaction rates to treat and control acid mine drainage".

dr. huminicki will present her talk on tuesday, may 14 at 10:30 am in cb 3031. abstract: experimental and theoretical results can be used to address the effect of mineral coatings on other mineral reaction rates in acid mine drainage (amd) environments. research results show that diffusion-limited transport of reactants through pore spaces in coatings on mineral grains affects the reaction rate of the underlying mineral.

this indicates that the growth of gypsum coatings on the surface of dissolving limestone in anoxic limestone drains (ald) reduces the neutralization rate of the dissolving limestone, which subsequently decreases the observed effectiveness of this treatment.

alternatively, iron oxyhydroxide coatings that form on oxidizing pyrite is a potential strategy to prevent 'runaway' amd by reducing the rate of acid production to a level where the acid can be naturally neutralized by the surrounding rocks. experiments measured reaction rates for underlying minerals as coatings grew thicker over time.

experimental data were fit to a diffusion model to estimate diffusion coefficients of reactants through pore spaces in the coatings. models were extrapolated to longer times to predict the behavior of the coated grains under field conditions. experimental results indicate that management practices can be improved for alds and mine waste piles.

supersaturation with respect to gypsum leading to coating formation can be avoided by diluting the ald feed solution or by replacing limestone with dolomite. amd can be prevented if the rate of alkalinity addition to mine waste piles is faster than acid is produced by pyrite oxidation.

the diffusion model developed predicts the time when iron oxyhydroxide coatings will become thick enough that alkalinity from the surroundings is sufficient to neutralize acid produced during coated pyrite oxidation and therefore additional alkalinity is no longer required thus controlling amd.

the course is also intended to provide an understanding of basic linguistics and its application in the fields of additional language acquisition and english language development.

this certificate program is of interest to teachers in regular classroom environments or anyone who would like to teach english as a second language in canada or abroad. the program is based on the requirements outlined by tesl canada for a standard i certificate.

upon successful completion of the program, graduates may apply directly to tesl canada to receive their certification for this program. the 120 hours of coursework over six weeks at the thunder bay campus is divided into three sections:

  • educ 8300: english as a second language part i (70 hours) which includes theory in practice, linguistic training, and methodological issues. (may 6 - 30, 2013, 10 am to 3 pm in bb 1054)
  • educ 8301: english as a second language part ii (30 hours) which includes professional issues. (june 3 - 6, 2013, 10 am to 3 pm in bb 1054)
